air filter replacement, OEM or AM

I've read a post about K&N's filters causing issues with extra oil on them from the manufacturer. Also it lets more dirt in the engine? Its the first I've heard of this, and I've put K&N's on numerous cars in the past with out issues. Should I stick with OEM? By just looking at it, looks a bit restrictive. Another user said rinse the K&N with warm water and let it air dry for 2 days to get the grease out. I'm planning on a major maintenance project soon, and wanting to get some advice on filter choices. More grunt from the intake induction noise will be a positive with the AM filter choices over OEM. The power gains seems to be negligible.

The issue with K&N filters is that people who run them tend to clean them WAY too often and flood them with oil afterwards... I've ran them for years without issue.

I have also ran them for many years with no issues. I have about 235k miles on my K&N in my B7. I always remove the filter from the plastic, shake it out and keep dropping/bouncing it on a newspaper until I can see no oil coming off and then let it sit out for a few hours. Most issues are all from user error.

I currently have the AEM filter, similar to the K&N but no oil to apply.
I also ordered the spray cleaner as it's reusable and again, does not require oil to work

    Here's the AEM Air Filter:

K&N. I've run them in every car I've ever owned. Hundreds of thousands of miles with no issues.

    OEM, just like my blinkers.

All those pleats mean more surface area then any after market. I hope that's the right pic?
But it's what you like, so there is no wrong choice.

Thanks for the input guys, really appreciate it and feel much better going AM filters. Did you guys feel or hear any difference with the k&n or AEM?

The pleats also serve the purpose of smoothing out turbulent air for proper metering.

I went from stock OEM to AEM and it really woke my car up.
Of course it was a combination of new plugs, fuel filter as well, but it drove nice soon after that.
