2016 Map Updates for us Canucks

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So fare I have successfully done the following:

    - registered my 2016 at: https://my.audi.com/content/ca/myaudi/en/home.html (the onscreen image of my car after logging in is even the right colour and correct wheels)

    - under the "Audi Connect" link I chose "Display Available Services"

    - the only Service displayed was "map update"

    - I then downloaded and saved the map

I understand the map update will take a long time (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...?highlight=map - thanks Jason) and as I am going to be very busy for the next few weeks, I have only been able to confirm that when following the instructions on Page 6 of this document: http://www.audi.com/etc/medialib/ngw....0041.File.pdf "Importing the Map Update into the MMI" I can get to the point where I am being asked to choose where the update files are.

Perhaps a fellow Canuck would like to see if they are able to update their maps.

    HTH

Did you just download the small JNLP file? If so, double-click it. It will ask you where you want to save the files. The location you should give is the root of your SD card.

Thanks. I installed Java as you said in your other thread and when I started downloading the files the suggested destination was "My Documents" so I saved them there. I used an old PC and there were no other documents when I started.

The files are "Mib1", "Mib2", "02310014.md5" and "metainfo2" Total size of these file is 11.6GB

I will try the download again later with a SD card inserted and have the files directed there just to see if the same stuff comes through.

Downloading the update now. Download literally took 2 minutes.

You can save to SD card or anywhere else and just move the files to an SD card later. There should be 4 files/folders total.

Just doing the Canada maps(1.2GB), don't need everything else.

You don't need to redownload everything.

Take all the files it downloaded and copy them to an empty SD card. The Mib1, Mib2, etc. should be in the root of the card.

Did anyone get it to work yet? I don't think it's downloading properly from the myAudi website.

Did mine today. Dead easy, put SD card in and select system update. Must've taken 40 min, did it while running errands. I did entire update which was a 9.7 GB d/l from the site.

Now wish there was an Audi Connect update allowing us to use it via our phones data since we don't have sim slots.

That was one of the biggest upsets i had about my RS7...no sim slot, like WTF?!? There goes 1/2 the MMI benefits.

Agree, seems pretty lame especially since the MMI was updated in the 2016 C7. Seems like its a deal audi cuts with telcos to make it cost effective. If that truly is the limitation, screw it. Let the user decide if they want to pay regular data rates to make it work. Also the MMI lets you create a hotspot via your mobile phones data, so why not leverage the mobile phone data to provide connectivity to the MMI. I have a juicy data plan, so would be ok with that. Since our cars don't have a sim slot, I doubt we'll ever benefit from it. A software upgrade may allow the tethering to mobile phone idea.

We really got shortchanged for that. But there is a solution; Just do the tether mod. I described the process here: MMI 3G+ Tethering.

You know another crazy thing? I just moved from Ontario to WA and the first time I used the nav I noticed it reads out the street names here. I was like WTF.

Quick glance at it looks dicey, if I recall it mentions bricking the MMI as a risk.

I'm assuming the map downloads are only available for 2016's? I can't see any active links for my 2014 on the "My Audi" site after registering. Site seems pretty lame actually?

The My Audi site is customised to your car, using the VIN code you entered when you registered (that's why the pic looks like your car with the right colour and options listed)

Only the C7.5 model year (Late 2015/16) cars have downloadable map content.

Thank-you. That would explain why I can't download the map update.

I am unable to download the map update. At first it was stuck on the download progress window and Java kept asking me to update. Figuring that was the reason the download wasn't working. So i updated Java and now i keep getting error when attempted to start the download. It starts off verifying the application https://download4/audi.com and then tells it its unable to launch the application. what gives?? I've tried all the maps and just canada and same results for both.
