Giac stage 1 ecu and tcu tune

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys anybody here with this exact setup? Giac stage 1 ecu and tcu tune on a 2015 b8.5 s4? I need to make a decision today whether or not I should mod. Any complaints? Is it ok to run this setup without an intake? Limited budget here but really looking for that extra bump in power. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Is there an end of year sale? Just wondering who's forcing you to make a decision by lunch time today....?

Ha yes they do have a sale going on. It doesn't really have to be by the end of today but I'm really just looking to make a decision already I've been going back and forth whether or not to tune.

I have not read a single bad comment about any major stage 1, 2, or TCU tune. The occasional shifting issue with TCU but those seem to get worked out with reflash or program updates. Intake is not a requirement.

You must be new here. <looks left> Yup.

For months, starting in late 2013, the 2014 variety Stage 1+2 tunes from APR and GIAC were awful. Very very slow. I can't remember the exact details, but something changed in the ECU for that year and it took many months for GIAC and APR to adapt. There were several "argument" threads where it was 2014 owners vs. APR/GIAC defending the slow 1/4 miles and such.

Apparently, it's all been worked out now though. That makes me happy, as I'm a 2014 owner myself.

haha, i remember...good times (not). Then, they just went silent for a while until version 2 was put out, which made people happy again. But, it was painful to get there. Seems like they just took the 2013 tune and carried it forward. What happened to all that r&d and rigorous testing? lol

op - don't know anything about the stage 1 tune, but i've read you get that you get the benefit of being able to 'pull' at the higher level band. the tourqueness in the lower band is where stage 2 comes into play, iirc. Many ppl have been happy with the dsg tune. understand ur on a budget, but maybe you can get a used cai? it's supposed to help a bit with performance (at least more than exhaust, ha).

Ya I'm looking into getting a used cai at some point but for now I'm going to do a pulley/tune. I decided on doing the pulley instead of the dsg tune for now.

I went GIAC stage 2 and TCU about 6 months ago. Power is legit - you won't regret doing either.

However....After I got the tune I started noticing a burning smell. I created a thread a while back on it. In short - if I did a couple hard pulls, car would smell of something burning. My tuner checked it, no codes, lights on the dash, shredded pulley belt, etc... I believe it is likely the DSG, but the car still behaves all normal.

That would be my only caution to you.

Also, I have had my car in for an oil change at Audi after flashing both ECU & TCU back to stock and no TD1 flag.

    Hope this helps.

I ended up going with a tune and pulley setup from powerhaus performance in cherry hill, nj. Very impressed so far. Beat my buddies bmw 335 m sport by 5 cars (he had a passenger) and beat my other buddies 550 bmw that has 400 hp to the crank by 4 cars. Also, raced my buddies new m3 and only lost by a car length. M3 had a 200 lb passenger.

I’ve been GIAC Stage 1 and TCU Time for almost a week. Not impressed so far, when she pulls she pulls nicely but power seems inconsistent. May it’s not fully adapted?

Whats your gas like? Whats the temp like? I don't know how the weather has been there but my stage 1 got inconsistent when it was 80*+. Could be not quite adapted yet too I suppose.

Hmm planning to do this upgrade this month myself. Would like to know if things improve especially during the 30 day return window. How many miles on car? Any other performance upgrades? DSG or 6MT?

2014 B8.5 DSG w-18.5k miles- CAI, AWE Touring. Weather has been up and down since I’ve got tuned last week. We had a high of 85 last Friday when I spent most of the day breaking in the tune. Today’s pulls seem more consistent, I did go WOT from 2nd gear and there was a decent hesitation but definitely put me back in my seat. Tomorrow is gonna be 60 out, gonn take it out again.

Have you contacted GIAC to see what they say?

As a matter of interest did you load the program at home with their flashloader device or at a dealer?

My GIAC Stage 1 pump and race file using 4.5 gallons of E85 both ran well (just tuned a few weeks ago). Still need to try the logging feature.

Just received my flashloader mobile direct from GIAC. I'm def going to wait until it's properly warm before flashing so i can put some serious miles into adaptation. Kinda surprised it didn't come with any directions tho, I know they have directions on their website that i've already read over.

Did you have to pay extra for the flashloader? I had mine tuned at AWE, I got the switcher but would have loved to be able to flash back to stock at home.

I read the GIAC tune will reset the ECU counter. Is this true? Avoids the chance of getting a TD1 this way?

with the spring sale with the 93 octane tune file and the flashloader, its cheaper than the price on the AWE website. I wasn't a fan of driving to AWE for a tune, and now I never have to.

I've read people quoting GIAC saying this, but I've also that another GIAC user say that they tuned back to stock and the dealer was still able to tell and flag their car. The response from GIAC is that that they shouldn't have been able to see the flash.

If you're worried about the warranty then Chipwerke. If that's not as important to you then just tune it and enjoy your car, but be prepared to pay if something breaks.

Dealers have always fucked me in the past so I couldn't care less about the factory warranty.

The instructions are included in a file on the thumb drive from what I was told along with an instructional video which I assume is the one on YT.

I did my whole Flashloader mobile pairing and flash while on the phone with Alfonso at GIAC. It was a good experience. It's fairly idiotproof as long as your battery has the proper voltage to start.
