    Luck with remanufactured engines

What kind of long term success have folks here had with remanufactured BHF engines for the V8 S4?

I finally did it. Found the closest thing to my dream daily driver we are allowed here in the US -- S4 Avant 6-speed manual in Dolphin Grey with alcantara seats. Had been looking for quite some time and snagged one with 73k miles on the clock.

Doing some planning for the future. I love this car and want to keep it forever, but I know eventually the motor will need replacing or major servicing. When the time comes I'd like to just have a new engine for a bit more peace of mind.

So, what kind of luck have folks had? I'm particularly concerned with the condition of cylinder walls in these engines.

The only experience I've seen is here --> http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...W-S4-V8-engine

    Any other experience appreciated.

Wondering this myself, I've got some ideas bangin around in my head but they are mostly contingent on finding a GOOD low-mileage / new motor.

    Nice stable

I wonder if there are any brand spanking new long blocks left. I believe last one to have it installed in their S4 was FastEddie Rumor is finding new one is as rare as spotting a unicorn these days...

If you keep up with the maintenance you should be good. I have a friend who has a b6 S4 with 250k on it...the only thing that's been done is the timing chain service. it doesn't skip a beat.

These motors can be expensive to replace but with you driving an RS5 Money may not be an issue in comparison.

So original motor and only timing service done once? What mileage did he do timing service at?

Nice looking stable!!!! Just attack the timing components and refresh valve-train and you should be good for a while!

If you were to get a new motor....wonder what it would take to put in a RS4 V8 powerplant.

I like hearing stories like that. Just goes to prove when taken care of properly these things will last quite a bit.

Good question. That'd be ideal. One concern I'd have about a new motor is that the engine will have been just sitting dormant since 2008 or earlier yeah? I wonder if there is any inevitable degradation from lack of use, condensation cycles, etc to worry about.

Heh my thoughts exactly. I toyed with this idea but have decided against it as this car isn't exactly lacking in fun as it is. Going to just keep the car stock and focus on length of ownership versus intensity of ownership
