Post CVT Swap to FWD 5-Speed

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Yes, I started a thread about CVT to 6 speed AWD but the deal fell through so this is the rebound. Just acquired most if not all of the parts required to do the swap. I will put a parts list at the bottom. I have a grasp on some of things that need to be done but the few things I'm concerned about is wiring and ECU programming. Can I use my CVT ECU and reprogram it to accept the manual transmission? Which sensors would have to be disabled/enabled to get electrical functioning properly to make the car drivable. I'm not too concerned about cruise control, just want to get the car on the road. I will start the swap when I'm confident I have the information needed to get the job done. As far as I know I will just need to pop a pilot bearing in and then bolt up the transmission. I also read somewhere that the starter may be different between the two. Can anyone confirm? I have a lightly used Valeo clutch kit that I'll be using for the swap. Everything looks to be in good condition. I'll try and put all of the parts I have for the swap but might be forgetting/missing some things. I'd like to get as much information compiled in one thread as possible. There's multiple CVT swap threads without much info and I'd like to change that for anyone that has to deal with this CVT transmission in the future. I will also be documenting as much as possible with pictures. I will update the OP with a couple of photos when I go back to the car.

    FWD 5 Speed Transmission(from 04 B6)
    Shift Box
    Pedal Cluster with all switches
    Slave cylinder
    Master Cylinder
    Lightly used Valeo Clutch Kit
Hydraulic line for clutch to slave
    Axles

I will probably be picking up all of the pivot parts inside the transmission since they're cheap along with a pilot bearing and throwout bearing.

Here's a few pictures of the parts I have. I'll most likely be changing the gear oil before I put it in the car and recheck it once installed. The photo quality isn't the greatest, it's pretty dark in that part of the garage

Yes your cvt ecu can be reprogramed easily you will need a genuine ross tech. As far as sensors the speed sensor on the drivers side will be used i believe. I did a write up a while ago.

    Looks like a fun project!

Hope everything goes smoothly. (But you know it won't and that's what makes it so satisfying after it's all done).

I swear the worst part is fitting the clutch slave hose and the pedals the rest isn't so bad. I also used my stock shifter bezle

Thanks for the info. I do have a genuine Ross-Tech cable so that won't be a problem. I've been reading your thread for a the last few minutes seeing all the changes you had to make.

Thanks! I'm expecting some hiccups but I hope not too many. That's why I want to get some information in here before I dive in. I don't want to be up at midnight asking questions on here hoping for someone to answer within minutes. I usually get the answers pretty quickly but it's not the ideal situation at that time of night.

Well that sucks to hear. I'm gonna try and get my Bentley installed again and get ElsaWin back up and running to help. Not having either will be no bueno.

Yea I considered getting a new clutch kit but I want this thing on the road and running before I worry about the minor things.

That's awesome news. I read somewhere in a B7 thread that the OP said he had to use a different starter. I'm glad that doesn't apply in our situation. I think I'll just figure out how to get the original hydraulic line to work since I have it. Doesn't make sense to spend $100 on something I already have.

Yea, I have a FWD 5 speed trans. From what I can gather I see LAU 012301 211AE printed on the side of it.
