Question Another Depo City Light Wiring Thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
There are a bunch of half finished threads out there talking about how to wire city lights in your Depo housings. Reading this page, it makes me think that the most simple way to do this is to take the power from the auto-leveler. The idea of getting the power at the turn signal to me seems like more work and this is all internal to the headlights. Can anyone confirm what has to be done? From reading that AW post, I an interpreting it as I have to essentially take the 12V switched power from the blue feed line (there is also a black, and brown wire also), and jump that to the Yellow and Brown wires that come out of the city light harness. Am I right? If someone with more knowledge would chime in that would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,

Happy to help, mid oil change here lol. So first thing to establish is do you want the city lights to replace the parking light? Or run simultaneously, or run city lights on the first setting and parking lights + low beams on the second one.
Each one can be done, I'll try to help whichever you choose. I did the last one.

Thanks! I'd like to do whatever is more simple :). If they're on all the time (with headlights on of course either in parking light mode or low beams) I don't care.

In some European countries, if not all, the parking lights are the city lights, and the turn signals are ONLY turn signals. They do NOT double as parking/turn signals

The city lights are the little lights inside the headlight housing that lightly illuminates the housing. The parking lights are the turn signals. Well.....the same bulb, first "click" on the headlight stick. Bobkatkat has some great pictures in the random pick thread displaying the city lights

Ah ya beat me to it, and with a better explanation none the less

    Hey Mike,

The easiest way I found to do it was to just wire it up to the blinker parking light. You need to get two of the headlight plug wires which simply click into the connector. Don't buy the European city light kit. The bulbs on the OEM e-codes are different than the depo's. You need two of these (2 per side):

Edit: Mike use Mark P's write up. This is pretty good.

I wired mine in place of corner parking light. Pretty much just cut the wire leading to the corner light (first used test light to find correct wire) then ran that wire to the citylights. First click turns on citylights, second still fires headlights and keeps citylights on. Turns work as they should.
    Parking/citylights on

    Full headlights on.

A little off topic, but is your grille surround color matched or is it just a visual effect?

In the first pic its black, the second pic was older when it was color matched. But the paint didnt hold up very well over time, so when I painted the mesh, I decided to also paint the surround black. Ill go back to color matched when I have my euro trunk painted. Good eye.

I wonder if these are worth anything to anyone. They're Valeo D2S E-Code harnesses from my old headlights.

Another Depo City Light Wiring Thread

Sweet, doing this now. I had a 10 pack of side marker bulbs and they fit. Hahaha.

I have a pre facelift to facelift harness i made (top corner) that i will be depinning and pinning the factory plug on the car. Cutting the wire from the side marker plug and wiring it to the new pin.

It would of been cooler on my pre facelift where the Daytime Running Lights where corner light.

Which wire on the city light harness? Yellow? That's what I'm looking to achieve.

The main headlight connector to headlight housing. Pictured here with the white wire jamed into it. I thought this picture was self explanatory.

I don't recall, and my car is in storage. But it's just two wires on the citylight harness right? Then it really doesn't matter as the other goes to ground.

Good news.. Figured out the wiring . Thank you to John who linked me to the ECS product above and King who took the picture of the back of the headlight plug which made the job very simple once I got the parts from ECS. I forgot that my buddy had already tapped into the parking light wire on each side a few years ago, but did it as a quick job with whatever he had around to get them done so when I removed the headlights one time I had to cut the wire because he went straight to the city light harness with the wire running into the headlight housing. The much cleaner way to do it is what John linked me to above which is adding the pin to the headlight plug so you splice into that wire which will allow you to remove the headlights just fine. I'm much happier having gone this route the second time around.

I also used this write up when I wasn't sure why I couldn't get the pin all the way in.. Go figure, there is a lock!
