Urgent Help Needed - ATF fluid and filter change issues

    Hey Guys,

2009 Audi A4 AWD with automatic 6 speed transmission

I am finishing up my ATF filter and fluid change and need some help please. I have finished the filter swap, have the pan back on on and tried filling the pan. I have the car level and am filling through the back large black plug, I had just over 3.5 liters in and its already spilling out over the plug as i try to fill.

I tried starting the car up but when I put it in drive its now almost stalling the engine so i shut it down right away. It also seems to be struggling to get in gear when i went to reverse.

What am i doing wrong? how much fluid should be going in?

this is my daily driver, please help me out here

Ok, I went back out and let it warm up to 35C in park, cycled the gears and the stumbling in drive has went away. Got about 0.5L more fluid in but that only gets me to about 3.5-4L in total.

Shifts seem to be engaging now without the slipping sound.

Is this enough fluid? I dont want to test drive right now as the article i read said i should get 6L in and the service kit i bought gave me 7L of fluid.

I will post a follow up after the drive but would love to hear what others have put in for volume of fluid after dropping the pan.
