    Horn NOT working??! Electrical issue??!?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Randomly noticed , my horn is NOT working??!?!?! I checked the fuse in the brown fuse box (driver side) said "HORN" 25amp fuse , checked it, looked perfectly fine. Horn still doesn't work? Also replaced oil level sensor twice and still showing my oil level is low. Am I having some sort of electrical issue or what? No fuse for the oil level sensor (have checked all) both driver and passenger door fuse boxes and trunk area. Not sure why horn isn't working and my oil level sensor isn't working either. Has been on for about 4 weeks. Like stated, replaced the oil level sensor TWICE now, just stays on low oil level, never goes up or down. And yes I've changed the oil, made sure exactly 5 quarts are in there. So that's not the issue. Any advice on what I should do to check wiring for oil level sensor and why the horn wouldn't work when the 25amp fuse is perfectly okay? ANY ADVICE GUYS??!

Did the horn die? It happens. I was honking at someone in my Yukon and it gave a little squeal and died. It was kinda hilarious and kinda disheartening as I had like 4 people nearly hit me before I replaced it.

I'd try and find the horn and see if it still works. 9v battery should trigger it. If it works then try replacing the fuse. If not... Is the car off? Some horns don't work when the car is off.

horn doesn't work with car off or on. Still beeps when locked, of course I know that's separate. But still, no honks. Horn might be dead. Noticed it a couple weeks back, about the same time the oil level sensor started messing up. That's why I thought it may be related or an electrical issue. but yeah fuse was def okay. Then like I said replaced oil level sensor twice, still showing up "add 1 quart max - low level" etc... have yet to get under there and test the wiring/wattage for the oil level sensor. so not sure if I'm getting a reading of wattage at all from that.

Ah yea, I've looked at a fuse that looked fine but it was blown. Just a thought, never know.

Hmm really? So find the horn and touch it w/ a 9v battery and see if it works and if it does, replace fuse? Do you happen to know if there's a fuse for the oil level sensor on the b8 chassis? Cause everything I looked up, doesn't show one, but it's gotta be fused somewhere doesn't it?Cause the horns not so much my issue as it is the annoying oil level sensor issue.

oh really? What's it look like? Never been that far under there except when running a boost line thru the firewall. Is it just the horn relay? Or is it a few relays under there? By the gas pedal and all that under the dash?

There are 3-5 relays in there (different variations of the car would have a different number of relays) and there is a large cable going to it with an exposed spade terminal. You probably have seen it before depending where you passed the boost line through the firewall, I think once you remove that cover with the knee bolster, the relays look to be right in your face. I'm looking to see if somebody has a picture of that area somewhere on here.
Did both horns fail at the same time (high and low tone horn) or did it make a funny sound for a while and then completely die? Just seems weird both horns would fail at the same time if the horns actually went bad.

Found a pic, go to http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...stallation-DIY and see post #4. That is the photo of that fuse and relay panel. From looking at that picture, it appears the relay on the top row that is in the light blue connector is the horn relay (just to the left of the big relay with "643" written on it)

okay sweet I'll look at that pic to see what I'll be looking for!! thanks a lot. And no never made a weird noise at all, I never use a horn. I'm not "that guy" that honks at people I know, I've only ever used it if someone's coming into my lane or something. Very few times I've used a horn in my life. I actually had 2 people come into my lane in the same day I noticed that my horn wasn't working for both incidents. So I'l check that, thanks again in advance!

The bumper cover comes off fairly easy. You could check power and ground.
It may be worth popping the hood and pulling the rubber cover over the driver side tire. There is a harness on the back outside edge that passes thru there that runs very close to the control arms under suspension load.

You can also get to the horns pretty easily by removing the headlights. I have 2 sets of Hellas, SuperTones and SharpTones that I need to listen to and decide if I want to swap.

Hard to tell from a YouTube video. Maybe I should mount them right behind the grille and put some carbon fiber wrap on my hood, too.

Power and ground is located where behind the bumper cover? You're meaning for the horn, correct? And what harness is on the back outside edge that passes through and runs down by the control arm on the drivers side? thanks in advance!

The two horns are mounted on the ends of the crashbar. 1 wire feeds it and it grounds thru its bracket.

I am unsure what exact wires are in that harness, but I think I read a post about a control arm damaging the harness there on a lowered car. I seem to think the hood sensor was involved. Not really sure I couldn't find the post. I only mentioned it as it seems reasonable that the hood switch and horn wiring would run that way to front end. Plus its an easy 1 minute check.

Just to clarify, we are speaking of the DRIVER side control arm area, Correct?

Cause I've never really seen wires or harnesses running anywhere near the suspension components except like abs wires, brake lines and stuff.

So check the wire/harness near the control arm on driver(?) or passenger side(?) and see if all looks well. Well good seems easy enough. I'll also check that fuse area under the footwell in the driver floor area that @FBURG was speaking of. And see if I can't find an issue.

UPDATE, Had a fuse issue. Missing, reason I didn't find a burnt/blown fuse is because it wasn't there, finally looked at the fuse chart on what was suppose to be there . And fixed it all. Thanks everyone for the input!! Hopefully anyone else in the future will see this if they have the same issue.

Yeah I have 3 different people come over on me when the horn wasn't working. 2 at night (like my HID's aren't bright enough) and 1 during the day time. I kindly just passed them and let the wanna be dsg fart I have in sport mode, let them know I was there, and tried not to let them know they we're #1 with my hand :) LMAO

Does anyone have the Hella part numbers for the OEM horns on the b8? I need to get a new set since my right side died. Are they the red accessory horns on ECS?
