Have any of you owned a Porsche C2?

    Hey all,
I feel like some of you have had P-cars in the past or at very least cross shopped them with your RS4.

I have owned many many AWD sports cars and have a deposit down on an 03' (3.6L) Carerra 2.

My only plans are Coilovers, Muffler delete, rear seat delete and Racing seats up front. I am trying to shave about 100 pounds off the car and have it as my "toy" RWD car if you will. Picture a stripped out carerra with race seats (That's my goal)

I have been on here a long time and respect (for the most part) this forums opinions with exception to a few members... Just wanted to know if any of you have owned one or maybe have a friend that does and can give some insight. The car I am looking at, has already had its 60,000 mile maintenance completed and IMS

996's get a lot of flack for the IMS issues, but they're a good buy right now, especially if the IMS has been taken care of. They drive great, adequate power, and the maintenance isn't absurd.

We have one that we swapped with an LS motor - stupid amount of fun.

Thanks Guys, I was targeting an MKII 997... However I just started a business this year so my financials have changed slightly. I now want a 996 to really learn how P-Cars behave (as mentioned above) and then slowly work my way up to a nicer one in the future.

the nice thing about the IMS failure issue is that its so well documented, there are numerous solutions to it, and really you have pick of what you like, cheap and easy, but on a maintenance interval, or expensive and completely bombproof. Its no longer a surprise so really get into a 996 now because the stigma is starting to fade and you'll see prices jack up in short order. IMS failures aside, the 996 is a very capable chassis with potent motors.

You can say that again. However a properly set up 911 is a beautiful thing.

Well I picked it up Yesterday.

Has the Sports seats (Which my shoulders don't fit in) and the optional skinny 5 spoke "performance" wheel as Porsche called them on the 996.

First mod will be suspension and learn how this car behaves over the next few months... This is my first RWD car.

Raudi --- Any advice on the best way to corner in these? when to get back on the gas ect.... I thought I remembered you having a GT3?

I'm not tracking my car but do take it through the crest, and other canyons on a regular basis. I plan on a few events during the year in 2016 so until then my advice should be taken as a person who drives through the canyons and not a track person.

I found that when I first purchased the car it would push if coming into the turn too hot. I would let off the gas and the rear would start to pitch. Not a good feeling and took some time to understand the dynamics of the car.

I then went and had the suspension dialed in with a proper corner balance and now the car drives amazing. The push is almost non existent, at my speeds, and although I'm still slow in fast out, if I find myself coming in to the turn too hot, the car doesn't really understeer like it used to.

My suggestion is to get the suspension dialed in before any spirited driving. A proper corner balance and no worn business and your learning curve will be shortened. They are great cars

I have owned that car as well as my current 997.2s. Wonderful solid cars with amazing feedback. My advice is join the PCA and do a drivers Ed event. You will learn more about your car during one of those than a million days on the street. The car has extremely capable limits and phenomenal brakes. Amazing brakes. Don't worry about it being too tail happy. With psm it will be kept in check. I love my new to me rs4 and the sound is so intoxicating, but the carrera has so much feedback that it will scare you thinking its at its limit way before it really is. Hope this helps

Picked it up for $23k.... The sport seats and the fact it has been well taken care of made it an easy choice for me.

The car even at slow speeds (15MPH) takes corners in neighborhoods like I couldn't even imagine.... I know I will be timid of this car for a while until I figure out its limits. ^^^Thanks for the reply above, I really do want to attend a driving class in one.

Thanks for the response. The sport seat are a plus even if you don't fit well in them you can always sell them.

My Dad bought one new back in 04. Still has it to this day around 85k miles on it now I think. Good reliable car. No IMS or RMS problems with his, Porsche replaced the tranny under warranty the second year of ownership. He's added a few mods here and there to improve the driving experience, mostly suspension stuff, and now just uses it as a track rat.

That is my goal too, I took the spare tire and rear seats out yesterday to shave a little weight.

Next up is suspension... It is unlike any car I have owned and it feels very engaging to drive. I just need to test its abilities on a track soon
