Common issues after 95k miles? Is it worth it to import ?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello everyone,

I would really appreciate it to hear what are the common issues with the a4 b7 after 95k miles. I'm moving to the Virgin Islands and love the car but want to know if it's worth it based on what may lay ahead issues wise.

Quick note, a car there with 50k miles=to about 150k here due to the stress the car is put through bc of the hills.

So keep it or sell it ?

    Thanks.

Well this is not the thread I want to see after just buying a B7 with 92k. Take care of your car and it will last a long long time, I really don't worry about miles.

That's what I figured but I was asking that way I can begin start doing preventive maintenance. I got mine with 82. At 95k now. It's been decent. Only small fixes needed.

timing belt / diverter valve(GFB+) / PCV / my n205 sensor gave out at 105k miles i also bought the car at 89k miles. Also one of my ignition coils went out had all 4 replaced . Now i have a control arm bushing just go out making noises so check all the arm bushings for tears. Also get carbon cleaning done it makes your engine run much smoother and gets some of your lost power back. i went to craigslist found a vw/audi tech that deos all my work for cheap he did for 250 when shops want 500 for the cleaning Fun parts would be a JHM stage 1 tune makes the car come alive also npgracing.com sells AWE boost gauge kit for 89 bucks that goes in your air vent best cheap one u can buy. Put Good oil i use mobile 1 advanced full synthetic 0w-40 in winter 5w-40 in the summer.

Amazing info. Thank a lot. Ironically my pcv needs to be replaced. I got the timing belt, accessory belt, water pump and thermostat in hand that I need to install. Was planning on the rest that you mentioned. I need to take a look at the bushings too since it makes a weird noise. For carbon, u mean like carbon deposits on the cylinders, clean injectors etc? Or is it somewhere more specific? Reason why I'm asking is bc i already had mine cleaned it nice those areas.

Carbon deposits on the intake and exhaust valves. You have to the intake manifold to get to them

It's really just the intake valves you have to worry about. Any carbon on the exhaust valves will be comparable to a port injected engine. The only time they would get bad is if you are burning lots of oil or something.

I bought my 08 DG Tip Avant with 94k having been perfectly maintained and lightly used. It now has 122k in 2 years. I did the cam follower, thermostat, TB, WP, etc as preventative maintenance. I have never had one issue (knocks on wood). At 122k it still feels just as solid as when my 08 IW 6MT Avant had 58k miles. If an Audi is well maintained, it can go a long time without issues. If you feel your car is good to go, I would definitely closely measure the pros and cons of importing vs buying local.

I should've added those too. I had the valves cleaned as well. The stealership recommended it last winter so I had them do it. They cleaned all that. However, how often is the process recommend to be done?

Man. I wanted the Avant version since day one but the only one I found was the one with manual transmission which I didn't buy since too much danm traffic in NYC. I've being weighing the pros and cons. Only issue is that u gotta pay at least 8k to get a decent car there. Anything below that, car might leave u stuck on a hill.

Depends on how you drive the car. If you run it pretty hard on occasion, you should be good with every 80-100k miles. If you do a lot of low rpm short trip driving, you'll need it more often. My car wasn't all that terrible at 106k miles when it first got it done.

Interesting. They have the same price as the dealership here. And yeah. I know about the DV. I just had a recall done in my turbo but DV wasn't part of it. Definitely taking a look at it since I thought they were going to. Thanks

Lol. I meant the cleaning valves part. They charge 150+/hr of labor and the stealership lol. If they charged 80/hr, I would've done so much to my car lol. They said my engine mount were lose and needed to be tighten ($1200) lol. They not even broken.

Yeah. Apparently short and soft drives are what allow it to build up. I end up doing 65 every day to go to work since I get one the Parkway. Plus I tend to do a lot of road trips so I guess mine should be good still lol. Barely do any laid back driving

    My personal experience

So I figured I'll post this here if anyone finds it useful.

In 2007 I bought a 2005.5 B7 A4 2.0T Quattro with the sport package. I've kept fairly meticulous records of my car since I've owned it. Again this is my own personal experience with the car and may not be representative of others experiences. I commute about 120 miles per day (total round trip) for work. Most of it highway.

The one major repair on this list I could've prevented was the cam follower. I would have saved myself $2000+ in repairs if I had visited this forum more frequently and listened to the notice sent from my dealer. Basically, I didn't check my cam follower and it failed one day taking out my rear cam chain, the cams, etc. That was costly, but I chose to fix it. I guess I'm attached to the car, haha.

Anyway, hope you guys find this useful:
    http://www.megafileupload.com/e960/A...0T_(2005).xlsx

I have tabs in the spreadsheet for fuel/mileage, a tab for repairs/maintenance, tires and the last one is a chart to visualize my costs over time. I use an app called RoadTrip on my iPhone to keep track of everything. I'm reasonably sure (99%), I've recorded everything.

Definitely useful. I've read about a lot of ppl having issues with cam followers. Definitely getting a new one just in case.

Any warning your cam follower was going or was it because something you did when performing maintenance, got a little confused there.

No warning. Most info I found recommended having it changed or inspected after a certain number of miles depending on if your car was stock or modified. EuroTech had the same input. If I'm not mistaken, the dealer also sent a notice to the same effect, but I think their mileage number was much higher.

In any case, I didn't do anything. One day my engine was tapping much louder than usual. The tapping never went away so I had it checked out. Basically the cam follower failed, taking out the chain, cams, and HPFP.

All told it was pretty pricey to repair. Could've been prevented with a $40 part and periodic checking.

My car is stock and was at 182,000 miles when it failed. Needless to say, it's on my to do list every 20,000 miles or so now.
