    Spare tire question

Hey all, blew a tire out on a road trip and am having a hard time sourcing a new one..

my house is 500km away (310 Miles) and am wondering if i will be able to make the venture on my spare tire...

has anyone had any experience driving a far distance on the spare?

my other option is buy a spare tire that is different from my other three and making the drive back.

currently have Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 studded tires, size 255/35 R19

    any info is appreciated

    thanks.

Wouldn't recommend that. The spare tire has a top speed of 50 mph and short distances only. I believe no more than 50 miles. Check the sidewall of the spare it should list the limits. Also, not sure when your car was built, but the spare tire has a shelf life of only 6 years. After that only use it in an emergency and with extreme caution. This should be stated in your user manual.

Agreed. I would buy a decent and comparable tread style temporary tire that can be fitted to the full size wheel.

i hope they provide me with some sort of warranty. these tires are basically brand new (less then 10,000KM on them) and i watched some Nokian propaganda and they were saying how these tires are the best on the market... not very impressed right now. the road i was driving on was nice and i would have felt if i hit something.. ended up with a pretty big cut on the inner side wall

You'll have to talk to them. There usually is evidence in the way the cords are damaged if the cut was caused by a foreign object. If the cut is parallel or diagonal and relatively clean, then chances are it was caused by a foreign sharp object. If it's perpendicular or jagged, then it could be a tire failure. If the evidence points to tire failure, then I'm sure they'll honor your claim as long as the tire is still under warranty. I don't know the situation in Canada, but here we can get road hazard protection. More and more it's included with the tire purchase. Used to be extra. These programs cover tire repairs and if the tire can't be repaired, they cover full replacement up to the original cost of the tire.
