so I'm at 85k and 2010 last night my car belts started to squeek slightly. I was a little worried but then I got about quarter mile down the street. Boom no power steering battery light came on water temp went thru the roof.got the car towed home and put it in service mode. The rear serpentine belt had disintegrated little shreds of belt has even wrapped itself around the supercharger pulley and melted. Moral of the story CHECK YOUR CRANK PULLEY BEFPRE IT FAILS. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF THIS WOULDNT HAPPEN TO ME BUT IT DID THE WHOLE outside OF THE CRANK PULLEY IS DETACHED. So I ordered myself the jhm overdrive pulley .

Sorry to hear that. Another pully failure. I have never heard of this type of failure on cars with such few miles. The upgraded units are sounding more and more tempting.

Are you tuned with a smaller sc pulley? Seems like some were claiming that was part of the cause.

Yes sir tuned with epl and cts pulley. It's unfortunate but jhm makes great stuff so I think the upgrade will be perfect.

Im at 55k and planning stage 2. Jhm crank pulley will have to be a part of that upgrade.

Better than my 335i(n54), when the belt would fail it would wrap around the crank pulley and get sucked in through the front seal and toast the engine.

I've seen crank failures as early as 57k miles on stage 2 cars so i'd say OP did pretty well managing 85k... I'd def swap to the JHM piece like you plan on and you'll be golden. Very happy with their overdrive pulley on my car

Yes but the belt failed because the CRANK PULLEY flew apart

If one were to check the crank pulley for impending failure, what sort of signs would there be?

The pulley itself is two pieces mended together. Mine literally separated the outside from the inside I can phisically take the ribbed section of the pulley off. Take a look at the jhm overdrive pulley it has an example of what a bad CRANK PULLEY looks like

The JHM overdrive pulley is perfect for people who want to upgrade to Stage 2 and are afraid of impending crank pulley failure. You're able to knock out two birds with one stone :)

Who's the engineer that needs to be fired? ah well actually i think VW has a lot of house cleaning to do when it comes to engineers. Then again, this doesn't really happen in stock cars does it? mainly just stage 2 w/ the extra power so maybe i'm being hard.

This exactly happened to me a couple of weeks ago. 2011 and 82000km (51000 miles). Caught it before the serpentine belt went off completely, but it started desintegrating already and some did get under SC pulley. Got the mess cleaned out, changed the belts / tensioners / pulleys and all seems fine now.

Had to put the new OE pulley (could not wait for JHM one to ship to Russia), I'd be also not able to get the benefit of the overdrive pulley (dual pulley setup) with my Revo tune.

PS. It looks like the newer OE pulleys (revised version with part number ending with "F") are less prone to falling apart. Could be just not enough time for them to start doing this though :)

Did you talk to Tony about upgrading to the overdrive crank pulley With the CTS s/c pulley? Does it need a custom tune? Won't it overspin the s/c?

nope I didn't the fastest stage 2 car is on a dual pulley set up. so why not go for it . any additional boost will be bled off thru bypass. as far as heat I'm running a cps and water meth is on the way so who knows if all else fails ill put the stock supercharger pulley back on.

Yes it happens on stock cars. Planed obsolescence, it's a term all should be familiar with by now.
