    Please help! Engine troubles!

I am a newish member here and I own a 2005.5 Audi S4. I was driving, and all of the sudden, my car started to almost lose power. The RPM's rose as I tried to accelerate but went no where. It periodically did this and then would kick back in. My friends and I pulled over thinking it may have been a flooded cylinder or something like that, but I think we ruled that out. The engine noise would go up and down like I kept lightly tapping the gas. Also, while sitting at a red light, the RPM's would go up and down, as if I was lightly revving my engine. The engine light decided to come on after driving it back home a ways, and then the traction control light came on, and I could not turn it on or off. The traction control light went off after a while and most of the problems went away, but it still seems to be a bit jerky and the engine light is still on. From reading other things, it seems it may be an O2 sensor? Has anyone had this problem before and/or know what this is? Thank you in advance!

777 - Don’t be scared by the hype. As with any car, do your research. Get a compression and leak down test done. Scan for codes, check the log book and talk to the business that have serviced it. Scope out the owner - is he/she the original owner? age/demographic (In Australia, this car was $132,000 AUD so you could almost guarantee that it would not get thrashed).
Regular servicing is a must as well as preventative maintenance. You’re buying an relatively high dollar car when it was new, and parts et.c reflect that despite possibly paying peanuts for it so also consider a 3rd party extended warranty.

If you’ve done your homework correctly, you’ll get yourself a car that’ll keep you smiling.

You'll want to get a scanner for your car, the best by far is Ross-Tech (link) although they are a bit pricey. If you intend to own the car for a while, it's probably worth it.

    +1

Trying to guess the cause of the fault is pretty pointless as there are literally dozens of possibilities, get a fault code scan done as that will give you a starting point.

IMHO the genuine VCDS lead and software from Ross-Tech is one of the best purchases any VAG owner can make.

Don't be scared to buy one of these cars. Just as it was said before, get a pre purchase inspection. You are buying a car that had a sticker price of $55,000 10 years ago. Don't expect to put cheap parts on it when it does break. Go get it scanned and report back the codes. And order a Ross-tech cable.

What does a Ross tech cable do?

provides interaction with the cars computer, allowing reading of status, and manipulation of some functions. For example, I was able to tell my car that instead of being in USA, I set it to the Rest of the World which changed the lighting system such that my fog lights became daytime running lights.
