    Need information on fuel line

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am replacing the fuel pump on a 1996 A4 Quattro, when I took off the catch I found that the two wires were missing most of the insulation so I rewired that. The fuel line is also brittle and broken. Can anyone tell me a.) where to find a parts listing for the fuel pump assembly, 2.) is there a specific part number for that fuel line, 3.) any suggestions as to where I can find the replacement fuel line without paying Audi price for it.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
This little fix it project is entering it's 8th month.

    It's likely #16 & 17 on this diagram. http://www.partscats.info/audi/en/?i...rent_id=688089

That would make it PN 8D0201220C & 8D0201227C. It's highly unlikely that anyone but VW/Audi would make these. Your options would then be to get some used or buy from some of the online dealer part vendors such as http://genuineaudiparts.com/ or http://www.jimellisaudiparts.com/

Be sure to verify the part numbers for your VIN.

It's part 6 on that diagram- a 12 inch piece of plastic that is $60+, ridiculous.

Upon further review.... the ruling on the field has changed. The part through the Audi dealer here in town is just shy of $120. The $60 doesn't one doesn't sound as bad now.

Just got the fuel line today after waiting a week for delivery. It's installed and the fuel pump is pumping- but no start. I am going to change the fuel filter now and hopefully that is all that it was. Wish me luck.

New fuel pump installed and working. New fuel line to the catch and new wiring to the catch installed. New fuel filter installed. But still no fuel to the fuel rail. So what now replace the fuel line? The new fuel pump is working so about the only thing left is the length of line to the engine compartment isn't it? I'm at a loss here so any suggestion would be appreciated.

After replacing the line, the wiring the pump and the filter still no fuel at the engine- so I am going to verify that the mechanic didn't reverse the connections on the pump - and if that is good then I will trace the fuel line to the engine compartment to see if it is crushed or crimped somewhere. Does anyone a.) have a schematic of the fuel line to the engine, b.) a picture of said fuel line, c,) a part number for the line and/or d.) any other thing I may not have thought of in regard to fuel delivery that will make me look foolish for not spotting it sooner?
    I await your responses.

I have the car home now and it isn't -20 degrees so I went through all of the fuses- all were fine. You can hear the fuel pump when the key is turned. I took the attached picture of the dash display- I noticed the flashing "ln 2" or "In 2" under the mileage- anyone have any idea what that means? Is there a breaker or a relay that controls the fuel rail or the fuel pressurization on the A4 B5? I did find that there was a line not attached on the temperature sensor on the bottom of the radiator on the drivers side so I hooked that back up. Any information at all would be helpful.

UPDATE-- I got a little smarter today and typed in ln 2 above. So it's just a 'have your car serviced and give Audi more money' code. That issue solved still no replies on the why the heck I don't have any gas at the fuel rail question or possible solutions. The mechanic who put on the upper and lower pan and radiator didn't seat the headlights properly and they bob up and down freely- which is the least of my issues if I can't get the darn thing started.

    How do you know you don't have fuel at the rail? If the pump is priming then you should have pressure at the rail unless;
    1. You are out of gas
    2. Something when wrong with the installation of the fuel pump or the pump is defective in some way (pickup tube or strainer)
    3. There is an issue with the fuel lines (blockage or a pipe got crimped)
    4. The feed and return lines could be hooked up wrong
That's all I can think of for right now. If you are 100% sure its lack of fuel spray some carb cleaner (or starter fluid) at the entrance to the throttle body and try starting, it should hiccup or roar to life briefly depending how much you use (don't spray it directly at the throttle plate).

Before any of this I assume the car cranks right? It just keeps cranking and never fires up? Because if it doesn't crank you have a completely different issue.
