Hey guys. I ran into a leaky fuel tank while preparing for holiday travels (pretty thankful I noticed it before, and not during my travels) It first seemed like a straightforward fix. Fuel was coming from near the top of the tank and leaking down. I pulled the rear seat and cover, and saw fuel all around the trim ring. I quickly made the assumption that I needed a new gasket. Being Xmas eve, I rushed to VW and picked up a new gasket at dealer pricing ($20) but the gasket felt loose. the rubber isnt dry, but it doesnt feel like a tight fit. While trying to install, I couldnt get the gasket to seat properly around the fuel tank rim. I have damn near a full tank right to the tank rim. Is the gasoline helping or hurting me trying to slip the gasket on? and could there be another weak point letting fuel out? Im moreso jsut asking for expeirences. I remember doing a fuel pump in my first b6 when 6 years ago and i dont remember getting caught up like this. I was wondering if the fuel pump cover's plastic is weak and brittle, and not making a good seal. At this point, Im about ready to order a new pump while im here. This pump is OEM but i dont believe its the original from 04. Any insight/advice is appreciated. Happy holidays
