Another oil leak (valve cover) thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I kept on smelling oil, so did the wife.
Decided to put her on ramps today.
I noticed a lot of oil on the plastic cover.
And in the coil packs. I had done this a while back, but still the leakage.
Maybe I didn't tighten the VC screws enough.
    Any thoughts guys?
    Questions,
Should I open the VC clean and reinstall it using the same gasket or just redo it?
    Thanks.

The O-rings that seal the solenoid to the right in your picture fail and will leak independently of the valve cover, if you're going to redo it I would do those as well since it looks like the one in the picture is leaking.

    Indeed,
Also the one screw on the VC isn't tightening at all. Will this be an issue?

It can be an issue for sure. If one of the bolts isn't torqueing properly it can change the way the valve cover clamps to the head. Depending on if the bolt or head is stripped it should be easy enough to deal with. If the bolt is stripped get a new bolt, if the head is stripped heli-coil it; either way hope that the bolt isn't broken off as that can be a pain to deal with.

I will get all the gaskets and o- rings needed and post back.

    Updating this thread.
All is installed with no issues besides breaking one bolt on the driver's side valve cover. (I was able to put a stud in there )
I hope this stops the oil leak found.
    Things I did:
    Replaced both VC gaskets
all four camshaft adjustment valve O-ring
    Six new spark plugs

    Lets see what happens.
