ECS Vag Com cable

I just received my USB Vag-Com cable from ECS and have just about given up on getting it working. I consider my self very proficient with computers, it's how I make my living, but for the life of me I can't get the drives installed, all Windows sees is a "USB2.0-serial" device. I've tried multiple computers, multiple versions of Windows, and even tried to get it running on my Mac. Am I screwed? Anyone else run into this issue and successfully get it resolved?

What type of computer afe you using and what software? Won't work on mac unless running parallels or bootcamp I believe.

I followed the directions and pre-install the drives linked on the ECS site, but no joy.

I am using an HP laptop, Windows 7, just trying to get Windows to not fail during the driver install.

I gave up on the Mac for now.

Thanks for the ideas, but tried all those steps already with no luck.

Delete the generic device that Windows see and make sure you install the software and drivers before you ever plug the vagcom in.

You only want to plug in the usb after the software is installed and it asks you to do so.

I have the ross-tech cable, it just works.

Is a full Ross package really gonna cost me hundreds of dollars? Sometimes you get what you pay for.

I thought you bought a genuine ross tech cable from ecs, is that not what you have? Yes it will cost you 350 unless you find a used one here in the classifieds.

Ahhhh, can't help you there. Id return it if I were you. What exactly are you trying to do with this cable? Carista is another option if you're trying to read codes and tweak some things.

Buy the dongle on Amazon for 40 and buy the pro app for 20. It's pretty easy and there are a few threads on it to help you.

I opened my ross-tech under the tree and was up and running in 15 minutes. It would have been faster but there was a lot of commotion. It works like a charm too.

^ Ross tech was easy but op's issue wasn't with ross tech cable.

What version of VCDS do you have? This cable works with VagCom-Lite 409.1 & earlier software releases. If you have a later version it may not be compatible.

I haven't even got to the VCDS part yet, my issue is with Windows assigning the proper drivers to the cable.

I have both but prefer the ross tech for the more in depth and I just use carista for the simple mods or codes on friends nonaudi cars
