I want to buy new all season tires for my q5. I have the 20 peeler wheels with 255/45/20 excellence tires. I know they are summer tires so its time to go all season. I was wondering if I could buy a fatter tire on 20'' wheel and still fit ? so bigger then the stock size

I was really hoping you were talking about your Christmas eating habits.

The answer to your question can be found at tirerack.com. For each tire they'll tell you the size rims it will fit on.

Anything is possible. How it will look is another matter.

I've seen 275/40 and have read about 275/45. Personally, I'd stick with 255/45 (tread width in rain & snow...less is more), although I respect that's not what you're asking. Good luck.
