"2016" North America maps are now available

For those with a 2016, the "2016" maps are now available for download from MyAudi. As with the "2015/2016" update, you'll need Java installed to run the JNLP file, plus a 16GB or larger SD card to store them. Be prepared for a multi-hour update process.

Yes, stick the card in your car, then go to MMI Setup and then Update. Tell it to look on the card for the update. It can either install in the background over the next week or so of you driving (during which your maps may not work properly), or you can leave the car to do it all at once, you just need to go and start it for a couple minutes, every half hour or so, to prevent the car from shutting off and/or your battery dying.

Map upgrades on a 2016 are free for the first 5 updates (every 6 months).

Not really sure what you mean by that. There are no MMI updates for the 2016.

it's free from the myaudi site (I dont know what year this starts at), but if you use the google maps you don't really need the update, it's for the 3D maps but at the same time it's nice to be up-to-date for both map types.

I see where they say the maps would be but I only have the options for destination setup through Google or MyAudi, I don't see any map updates. I have a US 2013 S7. I have never upgraded the maps and I am running the latest MMI software.

i'm 2015 and that's what i see as well. Maybe it's relegated to 2016 models only? (even though the PDF says 2015+)

Updates are only available for 2016 6/7 cars (this is the same as MY2015 ROW). You need to pay your dealer if you're in North America and have an older car.

When I try to download the (UK) map data, I get the following error:

I had an IP4 error when trying to dl it the first time. I then ran surfeasy first with US VPN and it then worked. Installed just fine. Not sure why it didn't like my IP info the first time, I think IP4 is simply conflicting IP addresses. Anyway, try surfeasy with US VPN, sign up for a trial turn it on, start dl then turn off vpn because there is a dl limit with the trial.

I am getting an error "unable to launch application" when I run the JNLP file. Tried on 2 different computers but still the same. No idea what to do.

Yes, you need to have an account on the My Audi web site. This will give you online access to the updates available for your car. You will need your VIN number to get a site personalised to your actual car (colour/options etc.)

Ok, have you tried saving the jnlp and then running it from the saved folder, or is your browser trying to run it?

Tried both ways. Even rebooted the laptops . No luck until now

Interestingly enough I started my car today and my MMI prompted me that there's a new update and allowed me to download the update in the background of Mmi .... I have a 2016 a7 just for reference.

Me five! Didnt download it on the car's data though yet. That package is crazy big. Will drain my trial data in one go. Gonna try on myaudi acct tonight to get it on an sd card. Until last night it showed service unavailable.

Did it tell you about a map update or a software update? I'm curious if they'll deliver the latter over wireless or if you'll need to go to the dealer like the older cars.
