Maybe a dumb question. (Heater core)

Does the heater core only impact the heat in the car??

I noticed before that my heat wasn't adjusting so I added more g12 (it was low). Now it seems like heat is stronger.

    Back to the original question.

I live down south so it only really gets cold here 3 months out of the year max and basically never snows. Also my car is garaged and only drive 4 miles to work. Long story short I don't need to fix it if it only impacts the heat in the car.

That's correct. Could be t stat could be bad or your heater core could just be stopped up.

In any case, it's like traffic jam. The coolant will continue to be diverted else where.

I'd still watch your coolant level though.

It may only impact the heat as of now, but down the road it could cause major issues such as leaks or overheating. I had an rx7 long ago, heater core was bad, I ignored it and ended up with 2nd degree burns on my legs. Food for thought

If you're worried about failure, bypass the heater core. Plus if it's blocked it will allow coolant to flow

Mine was clogged with no heat for about a year and the car was fine. If the stoppage is bad though it'll be a once a year thing to flush it...takes like 20 min with compressed air and water.

So you know, a heater core job on the B5 is a 10 hour fix as per the Bentley manual. The entire dash has to be removed.

Yeah I meant for them to see if it was something else. From what I've been reading there are several reasons for lack of heat before saying it's the heater core
