My car has 156,000 miles and hot or cold you cant feel it shift. On normal driving it wont rev up past 2300.

95k miles on mine and I always drive it in tip mode 100% of the time. Changed trans fluid at 86k and mine works great.sometimes i even forget it's a cvt because I always shift it No issues here.

Can you explain what you mean

I thought I'd have had more than just 3

When it's crap what mean is most of the time yes I don't feel it changing but (in my opinion) revs far to high when cold ie up to 3 grand plus hence start with it in "manual/stick" mode. If I'm damaging the the box, to bad as I'm fed up with and hate the way it changes. Any autos I've had in the past (and I've had few) haven't been like this plus it's instant when pulling away, this things got a kind of elastic band effect for want of a better word, it's weird.

I'm saying its cvt, I think it is if I move the lever to the left (I'm in uk) and can use up/down, no levers on the steering wheel, I was asking the mechanic I use about it, says it's one of the worse auto box made and that Audi should have used ZF and the make that's in it (he couldn't remember the name).

Not the best drivetrain I agree, but never have problems in the cold with this transmission. Had it replaced under warranty for 'bucking' even though I think a simple fluid change and/or replacing the snub mount would of probably fixed the problem, but hey the dealer ok'd it and I have nothing to lose, beats gambling it further. It's been working flawlessly ever since.

Certainly the worst one audi has sold. Snowmobiles use CVTs and need to be revved a bit until they actually move, that's part of what you described as the elastic band effect. Also used in public transport buses.

The truth is, I don't believe anyone makes a reliable CVT yet. There are only two kinds of Mini's with CVT's. Those that have been replaced, and those will have to be replaced.

I think Nissan/Infiniti are close to perfecting it..... After working out a million issues since they introduced them.

Good for them. Someone will get it right. It's too good of an idea to just drop it. Keep in mind, the first hydraulic brake systems were a nightmare.
