    15,000 mile service - $700-900?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
OK, I'm only at 10,000 miles, but it's been a year since my 5,000 mile service so it's time. I just moved back to the DC area so I'm away from the dealer that sold me the car, which I trusted.

I called Audi of Tysons Corner, which would be most convenient for me - they want $913.19 for this service. No joke. More than the cost of buying Audi Care.

I called Audi of Arlington, which advertises a $69.96 oil and filter change, and an $89.95 "executive service" described like this: "Oil change, multi-point inspection, and car wash. Any 5k through 25k service completed in 90 minutes or less, including complimentary car wash and vacuum." They said, no both of these are "just" oil changes, you need the 15,000 mile service. We charge $725.97 for that. I said, but it's just an oil change with some visual checks. They said, well, we lubricate some joints.

I called a local independent shop that gets great ratings for German cars (and does some motorsports work). They said they'd do the oil change and every check in the official list for $265.00, with another $110.00 if I need a brake flush.

I like to do my service at the dealer during the warranty period. My last car was an Infiniti - they never charged me more than $150-200. So I'm tempted to just buy Audi Care and go with the most convenient dealer, but I'm not sure if I trust them. WWYD?

Audi care is nice. Covers up to your 45,000 mile service. The service the dealership does though is a joke IMO, I doubt they even check anything. If did not have Audi Care I would go to a local reputable shop.

If you have a DSG car audi care is worth it as DSG service is about $800. You can buy audi car right before for second service. the second service is just an oil change and brake fluid flush. You certainly can get just that from Audi dealer at much cheaper price, but buying audi care before the service is worth it

When is the DSG service due? Is there a list of what each service after 5K entails?

I would tell that dealer to go play in traffic for quoting 900$ for an Oil change and a visual inspection.

FWIW, I would look at the Service Interval document and highlight the major ticks i.e Oil change, plugs, fluid flush (DSG if you have one), etc and then only ask for those items for your quote. Do not mention "10K" or "15K" service. Most dealers or SA's are robots and only see dollar signs when someone says "15K or 10K service". Bring the checklist to your independent shop if that's the route you end up going with.

Lucky for me, I was able to negotiate to have Audi Care included on my 16'. Good luck

I did audi care for 15k to 45k. Then they changed it going above that and my SA said he would take care of me. I am 500mi away from 55k and curious what this is going to cost me. Anyone know?

I will talk to my indy shop to see how much they charge for these services. Audi care is 850 I think nowadays. Gets me a loaner though which is nice

DSG service isn't until 35,000 miles. Here's the schedule for 2014 MY: https://www.audiusa.com/content/dam/...-Year-2014.pdf.

Good idea. As far as I can tell, generously, the list is:

    -Oil and filter change
    -Check coolant
    -Replace dust and pollen filter
    - Check and clean plenum drain
    - Check brake pads and fluid
    - Reset service reminder

My biggest issue is that I don't trust them after quoting more than $900.

That's a lot of dough for an oil and cabin filter change.

Cabin Air Filter is easy. 3 screws and about 5 minutes. I just did mine this week.

Thanks - the air filter looks easy enough, but I'm mechanically challenged. I called back the Tysons service department and asked them to quote me just oil/filter change, cabin filter change and resetting the service indicator. They quoted $150 (!) for the oil change, $187 (!!) for the cabin filter change, and $70 (!!!) to reset the indicator. Audicare, including tax, was $862.16. Buying it and done. And my car clearly will go nowhere near a dealer for any non-Audicare, non-warranty service....

You can't really f-up a filter install. Very worst case you could take it to an instant oil change shop to replace the cabin filter (let the flames come at me) but really, you can do it. An oil change.....I'd find a local shop that works on or specializes in German cars and call them. There's nothing difficult about the Audi Oil Change. It's pretty straightforward.

You can change the cabin filter now yourself and the dealer can give you the new one to take with you so you can have it to change sooner. It really only takes 10 minutes at the most and you can get one cheap on Amazon.

Thanks, folks. I did get a quote from a good local shop, which will get my business when the warranty is up. They were much less expensive than the standalone dealer quotes, but they weren't cheap - Audi Care is a better deal.

Audicare is a good deal if you keep the car or it's older and you need the DSG or other more major service. For me, I won't keep the car long enough to hit the DSG service so it wasn't worth it for the oil changes. I do my own oil with the mityvac topsider. No regrets and ultimately easier vs dealing with the dealer for me.

I generally avoid the dealer if I can and I've had the car for about 26months now, never seen the dealership for anything.

Sounds like you have a lease.. AudiCare adds 1% to Residual value, so it's worth negotiating for it (if you can).

Check in the Mid-Atlantic chat thread here. There are a few dozen guys on AZ that could help. A lot of us use Audi Silver Spring. Call ahead and you should get a complimentary loaner.

I also bought Audi care because of a ridiculous 15k mi quote. Basically, it was a push.

Nope. It was a buy. I just don't drive a lot- about 8-9k a year. So it will take me around 4 years to hit the 35k for DSG service and I only planned on keeping the car for about 3.

I was aware of the lease residual bump for AC but Audi leases when I bought were so terrible they'd have to do a much better residual to make it worthwhile to me.

I think with those 3 upper services they now charge for each service instead of bundling it together.

For those doing the milestone services outside the stealership, are there any concerns if something happens to your car and then you bring it to the dealership. Can they claim that because you haven't been doing the services with an Audi dealership they might not cover something under the warranty?

I do the same as others here, I take it to a reputable, well known, Audi shop - not the stealership. Unless I have absolutely no other option (very rare). I am sure it is the same on other states, where you will find good shop outside the dealership, basically consisting on a super good technician that worked at a dealership for a long time, now he has his own shop, uses the discounts/costs from the stealership and has all the good contacts - performing a way better job at a way lower cost than any dealership. Plus they actually car about your car and tell you the truth, no BS.

For OP, I had my 15K service done about a month ago. Called 3 different dealership. They gave me 3 "packages" from $350 all the way to $700. Good luck with that. I had it done for $165 at a local specialist Audi shop. Same service, same everything, better price. I guess the only down is that you don't get a loner(?).

Dear burglars, that price is unreasonable to say the least. That's what I would tell that dealer. And find a better dealer to deal with.

I go to dealer for oil change only (still high but it's a business deduction and I get loaner). No mile marker service scams for me. For 35k I did cabin and air filter myself (get a torx screwdriver) and reset interval using carista.

If you look in the manual it says something like "the engine in your luxury car is a high performance state of the art design that requires only the most skilled mechanical expertise to service" or some other kind of bullshit.
