Hey guys. I was driving last night, just starting a 150 mile round trip. Got on the freeway and noticed the hood started looking like it was moving around. Sure enough a second later the indicator told me the hood latch was open. I merged from the far left and got off on the next exit as quickly as possible as this was a major concern at freeway speeds.
Upon pulling over, I found the hood wouldn't. Strange, I thought. This car is obviously pretty damn new. My initial reaction was to check to see if somehow the release cables were stuck . I actuated the lever back and forth several times and again tried to relatch the hood. No luck. At this point I drove to a gas station and got off the side of the road and under a light. Everything looked normal and I was running out of ideas.
I ended up finding out from a mutual acquaintance that works at the local Audi dealer this is a very common issue according to the techs. He told us that there is no replacement part or anything but to take a pick or small screwdriver and to actuate the mechanism back and forth several times on the outer latches/primary latches. So after looking in there and seeing what to move side to side and doing it a bunch, I was finally able to get the hood to latch.
This is not acceptable in my eyes as it is a safety concern and from what I hear is extremely common knowledge at the dealership. Audi should fix this. When I did a search, I couldn't find anything on it but that may just because these cars are so new and generally, these are not cars people are working on themselves.
I am posting here now in hopes of seeing who has all encountered this stupid issue, and if you took it to the dealer, what they did or told you. Please respond if you have any experience.
