    Need help with tire

Hey guys, just found out this morning about this weird nail in my rear right tire. So far no air is coming out of the tire - car is actually at the dealer right now getting the windshield replace - so I will know later today if air is getting out during the day. My question is, if I just pull the nail out and no air comes out, would you leave the tire in there? or you would still replace it? tire still pretty good 6.5-7 thread left. Tire is Hankook Ventus V12 255/35/19.

You must have a slow leak with the nail left in. You can't really repair the sidewall like that. If it were my car I would play it safe and replace the tire

take the nail out and put soapy water on the puncture, you will find out asap if its leaking.

The nail probably damaged the cord and as mentioned the sidewall cannot be patched or plugged. If the core is severed it will weaken that area of the tire. My advice is bite the bullet and get a new tire. High speed tire blow outs while exciting are dangerous. Been there.

time for a new tire. I wouldn't ever consider leaving it on my car. Everything rides on your tires.

Can you replace just one tire in a Quattro Audi?
I thought you have to buy a set

I think they give you 4/32nds forgiveness. IIRC you can buy through tire rack and they will shave it to match the others.

Buy a new one. Why risk it either a) leaving you stranded somewhere or b) having a wrecked cord and coming apart on the freeway?

On replacing a single tire, it depends on how much wear is on the other tires. I blistered a side wall on a new set of tires last spring, tires had 5k miles and a couple of Auto-X days on them, I was able to replace that single tire. This was at discount tire, they seem pretty strict.

Thanks for the replies guys. The air in the tire is the same, so that's good for now.

I will replace the tire, just to be on the safe side. This been the first time of me replacing just one tire on a quattro, I am a little concern. My tires are 6-7 all around hopefully everything will be alright. Called discount tire this morning and they are getting the new tire for me.

Any other experiences on replacing a single tire on a quattro?

They 'should' shave the tire down at the place you get it replaced so the tread depth matches the other 3. If I remember correctly you don't want more than 2mm difference.

    2nd that - don't screw with safety.

Sidewall damage is a non-starter. Only repair punctures if they are in the flat of the tread. Merry Christmas!

just curious as to what the issue would be if you have more than 2mm difference? what happens if you decide to drive around with the spare in the trunk for a month?
