My 2001 b5 avant 5 speed

So I'm new to this forum but not to the vag community. I just recently bought my dads 2001 a4 Avant. It's a 5 speed 1.8t Quattro. A lot of miles on it but the chassis is rust free and the car runs great.

I will post up pics in the coming days and the plans for the car.

Welcome. Helpful bunch of people in the B5 A4 forum so don't hesitate to ask any questions. These cars will run forever given proper maintenance. My previous B5 had 270,xxx miles and only died because it found the ass end of a pickup truck.

The car was rust free on the chassis but needed new suspension brakes and a clutch my dad had owned the car for about 6 years and it was driven very little. Now I'm going through and replacing all the old cracked hoses and just general maintenance that hasn't been done in a long time.

oh my i didn't even see the spring, How does that even happen?! What suspension are you running now?

It sat for 2 years out side. I just have stock springs and Bilstein struts. Hope to be putting in a set of H&R Springs next spring

Make sure you check out the subframes. Especially the Front Subframe where the Lower Rear control arms bolt to it.

I see some rust on the front subframe in your photos. That's normal and OK, but the rust is usually worse at the spot I describe. Seeing as all 4 springs were broken just from sitting (I've never seen that happen!), and the rotors literally disintegrated (crazy), and the fact that you are from Corning, you're going to have some rust on this car. The bodies of the B5's are really great. In my opinion they are the absolute pinnacle of rust-proofing a steel body - the best that Audi or VW (or anyone) has ever done. Everything before it was worse. Everything after it was worse. Probably the only thing better was the all-aluminum A8. However, the subframes are not protected like the body is. They can and do rust. Sometimes badly. Make sure you check them thoroughly.

Nice work on saving this Avant. The world needs more Avants.

Thanks front and back look ok the worst thing I have found is the sleeve where the rear strut mounts is pretty rough trying to source a couple of good used ones I don't want to pay 225 bucks apiece for them. If I can't find them for a good price I will most likely welding repair them then rustproof the whole thing with POR

This is what is done as of right now

Interior
-Complete led light bulb change.
-fixed cup holder
-new glove box due to mouse poop:-(

Exterior
-blacked out grill
-new windshield
- soon to be yellow filmed headlights
- picked up a perfect drivers side headlight
- blacked out rear emblems
- mk5 classic wheels with snow tires
- new pads and rotors
-ECS stainless steel front brake lines
Motor and drivetrain
- single mass flywheel conversion and new clutch
- Bilstein struts and new stock springs
- early B 5 stubby passenger mirror do too perfect glass:-)

I have a whole lot of things on their way from ECS I've also done a few things in the engine bay but I will wait for pics to show you them

If you have the tools to pull the radio, on the back is the serial number or some number that you can call the dealership with to get the code. Not sure if you need to provide any info as I normally call from my shop and the local dealers know me.

Edit: Honestly I really like the yellow on the headlights. I am biased as I am "murdering out" my sedan.

Any plans to put the film on the fogs as well? Smoked side turn signal or even film on it to match. Looking good, keep it up.

The Yellow will be illegal in NY. I also significantly diminishes your headlight performance. Yellow works well for fog only.

Skip the yellow headlights. That went out with 8 ball jackets and fanny packs.

All the yellow only takes out is the glare it was mandatory a few countries in Europe for a long time. And as far as the legality goes in New York I have never found a law. And all my cop friends say the car looks cool lol

I have the fogs just have not got them on and most of the car and parts will be black .
