Interesting article. They cite the new Q7 as being built on the MQB (transverse) platform, when it's built on the MLB evo (longitudinal) platform. Furthermore, I think the claim of an RSQ5 variant using the 2.5L I5 is dubious since that's a transverse engine and there's nothing to suggest that the next Q5 won't share the platform with the new A4 which we know is MLB-based. Even if they configured the 2.5 for longitudinal mounting, I don't see them using a 3.0 in the Q and SQ variant and a 2.5 in the RS no matter how loved the 2.5 is.

I tend to agree. I was a bit puzzled when I read the RS would have the 2.5.
I would have thought they would do something like a 3.0TT.

I thought the same regarding the 2.5L. Makes no sense.

We know they're going to a [twin] turbo V6 in the next gen RS4/5. That, with a bit of detuning, would be the most likely engine choice IMO.

    Wouldn't be satisfied with either the 2.5l or 3.0tt... only 4.0TT 😆

Would it be possible to fit one in a current model?

I think so- the 4.0T is quite compact. Highly unlikely that Audi would ever do it, though. Same with the B9 RS4/RS5. They're always conservative with engine choices.

Side note, I read rumors that the SQ7 may be getting the 4.0T which would be cool.

    Yeah but...The SQ7 deserves the 5.2 IMO...or maybe the 4.0TT.
