I'm hoping its the flex joint leaking, otherwise it might be Golf R time.

I suppose there's 4 possibilities, in descending order of preference:

1 - It's an Audi. Clear the code and move on. Wouldn't be the first time I've cleared an intermittent fault never to return. I'm looking at you ABS controller.
    2 - Bad rear O2 sensor.
3 - Exhaust leak throwing off the rear sensor, e.g. the flex joint immediately behind the converter.
    4 - Bad converter.

The good news is I did some data logging this morning and the sensor output looks normal. The front O2 sensor is cycling up and down as expected and the rear O2 sensor is fluctuating much more slowly and staying in the middle of its range. So for the time being I'm going with option 1.

Got it, thanks. I'll keep you in mind if it crops up again.

I'm notoriously fickle about cars. Me keeping the STi almost 5 years was a testament to how great that car was. If I do get something else, Golf R is at the top of the list

Reading the title I thought yours was stolen, because I was just reading an article about "a surge in thefts targeting parked vehicles' catalytic converters". Apparently they contain platinum, palladium or rhodium. Precious metals
