Anyone install a sub in their trunk with a custom box to take advantage of the cubby on the passenger side of the trunk?

I was quoted $650 to do a custom fiberglass one. Is it that pricey?

I want to add a sub to the BO system.

Check out my build thread in my sig. I have a custom sub like you are looking for. I think it was probably $650 for the box plus the sub and amp.
There are lots of threads, do your self a favor and search before starting new threads. Keeps the clutter down a bit.

Pretty sure people give you crap because you have a seeming inability to search the forum. Almost all of your questions could be answered far more quickly than posting a new thread just by searching the forum. It would also cut down a great deal on the clutter here.

Im sure as well... Maybe its best not to answer then... If filling up the forums with useless posts is the concern of you guys. I asked a question about $650 for a custom enclosure... I bet that is unique in itself

Well, if you can't learn how to use the Tapatalk search function (which I've already shown you that it works), learn to use Google. Just type in what you're looking for, followed by "site:www.audizine.com/forum" (minus the parenthesis), and just look for the ones in the B8 section.

Didnt know Google allowed using categories/tags like that. See things can be learned daily even if on threads you guys deem "clutter". This is by far the most anal forum I have ever been on.

One of the admins even posted in here and basically said the same thing as the others have, so there's that. But, I will say the google tip is actually a really good one cause the search feature on the AZ leaves a lot to be desired (read, sucks). For example, when results come back and you're rifling through more than a couple of pages and then click back, it brings you back to page 1. wtf?!

It makes me laugh that you know what KBs and DBs are, but you don't know how to search... Lol. I do admit that I hate the forum search tool as well though. But when I need to find something, the Google trick is the key!

Looks like he also put the stock sub back in. Whats the opinion on this? Is this type of setup producing better sound with the stock sub still in place or removed? And, if still in place, is it hooked up and firing or is it deactivated?

As far as the OP posting topics that have been covered, I understand the clutter issue, but I have found, in practice, that these threads often greatly help consolidate when people are actually willing to give straightforward answers and not just complain about said clutter. When the initial topic threads come out, they usually have awful titles that don't reveal much and make search difficult, not to mention the thread fills with a bunch of back and forth and to find the definitive answer, one must then dig through the thread itself which can reach an absurd amount of pages (not that the discussion within isn't worthwhile to getting to the answer, it's just a lot to go through). I don't have for, nor do I want to spend my time with, all of that. Another aspect is that, by revisiting and re-exposing the community to the topic, new information that may not have been posted will come to light, not to mention people who may not have had a clue or thought about such things before are brought into the topic. To me, the biggest issue with these threads is all the complaining that its been covered before. When I look at these forums, my biggest issue isn't these threads, its all the other bs threads that contain no information, or worse, misinformation, that are all over the place cluttering things up and quickly degrade, or simply begin, as worthless complaining threads for numerous pages where no one mentions cluttering up the forum. I rather see 10 of these threads to every one of those, IMHO.

Goal was to use the stock sub location .. but i couldn't get the sub to go in the sub hole.. the magnet was too big.. so i just dynamatted the area and ended up buying a box a week later

also i disconnected the stock sub..

depends on the sub you are using and how much power its putting out .. you can find a nice replacement 300w sub that once you build a nice mdf mounting board with dynamat it will work in the rear deck

comes down to personal taste and type of music you listen to.. everyone is going to be different also the budget people are willing to spend..

some people like this JL https://snapguide.com/guides/audi-a4...oofer-upgrade/

if you search pioneer in the S4 or A4 forums you will also find a pioneer a couple people liked

me personally my fav shallow mount SQ with some SPL sub is the Morel Ultimo SC ..

you can also check http://www.diymobileaudio.com/ for ideas and great prices on used gear .. personally its better to buy used top gear than new low line gear.. again personal preference

but you should take the advice of people who listen the same music you listen to or you will be very disappointed

I listen mostly to house and EDM

I would not like a sub to lay low off the deck... So a shorter sub thats as close to deck as possible is my goal

Also would like to be able to run it off the stock amp. I want just some added base. Not something that rumbles

stock Amp doesn't put out that much power.. also you're going to need an 8 ohm subwoofer .. that JL i posted would be ur best bet for improved quality ..

I'm an ID Fan boy so my choice would be http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...cs-CTX108.html .. though i've never heard it.. i trust the company

based on the specs it goes really low 18 hz and its 150 watts so no crazy boom .. perfect for the stock sub replacement off the stock amp

    Ok everyone, pay attention...

Thank you, now that I have your attention.
This thread is about subwoofers, keep it on that topic.
OP, Grumpy-S4, use the search feature, you'll get more help, more friends, and less grief. Also, lay off the name calling etc.

Others, stop calling people lazy and other names.

Keep this thread on topic or warnings/infractions will start.

    Now, back to the subwoofers.

I dont really want loud. I just want to be able to hear base. In stock form there is none in my opinion... Or am I wrong and am I expecting too much base from the stock BO system?

I agree, even with bass turned up, it gets a little louder but it's no more robust, which is the be expected. I have a 12" in a box with an amp in my GTi but that's being built for weekend and track duty so it's getting swapped into my S4 when I get the chance. I'm interested to see the difference between having it mounted in a hatch vs trunk with the stock in and then I'll probably pull it and reevaluate.
