Super hot air blowing on side vents, cold air in the center vents

Hey guys, I drive a 2007 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro. Beginning of the summer my side vents started to blow super hot air while my center vents blew cold/cool. It happens pretty much every time I drive the car not instantly but sooner or later it starts. Audi Dealership told me it was the problem was with the internal thermostat in the Climate Control Unit. I bought a used unit in great condition, installed and had a AC recharge towards the end of the summer. Being busy I had no time to take care of the problem so when the hot air started to blow I just turned it off and opened my windows and get that cool fall air. Now having some free time for the holiday I would like to resolve this problems. Even with the cold weather and having the heat on I can tell when it starts to blow hot air because its REALLY hot and has a slight burnt smell to it. If I redirect vents to window or floor it still blows hot air. I tried everything I dont know what could be the problem.

Any one else experience any problems with this?

    Please help!

I did not. I replaced the Climate Control Unit. Audi Dealership said it was the thermostat inside the Climate Control Unit that was bad, but replacing the unit did not solve the problem. Engine stays at a constant temperature, I figured if the thermostat was bad under the hood my engine would start over heating?

I am sorry that the Audi dealership gave you a bad diagnosis as it is not related to the sensor in the unit. It is actually a faulty valve that closes and opens the heater core. I had it fail on my 05 A6 and the symptoms were the same.

Agree with this likely being the valve. Thinking there is a DIY out there (AudiWorld) and you may be able to clean the valve vs. replacing it if l remember correctly.
