Trouble getting into R, 1st, 2nd and possibly 3rd gear.

I searched for this topic and found some pretty good information. What I did not find is replies after people have taken the car to the dealer to figure it out.

What are the chances of my warranty claim getting declined for the shifter if I have the car tuned?

I also have a symptom I didn't see anyone post about before...

Whenever I put the car from neutral to 1st even if I have the clutch pedal to the floor the car will lurch a little bit like its catching. What would cause this?

So since the car is tuned, can I just bring it back to the shop that tuned it and have them reflash the ECU without them being able to know? I have an extended warranty on the car for the next 4yr/48k.

Sounds like it could be 1 of 2 things. Either your having a clutch problem either with the clutch itself or the throughout bearing. Or something going on with the shift forks. But I would lean towards the clutch issue since you said its lurching forward when you try to get it into gear with the pedal on the floor. You can check the clutch resvior and make sure its full.

Hows it drive once you are moving. Are you noticing a slow drop in revs when you shift or does it act up while shifting also when your driving. ?

But Yes I would have the tune flashed back to stock. And all that they could probably see is that yea someone flashed it but its stock now and have 0 proof that it had a tune on it. So they can't deny you warranty if its a warrantable repair. If its clutch related Im going to say your not going to get any sort of warranty.

Sounds like the clutch is not disengaging completely, which is why its difficult to get it into gear and also lurches a bit when you put it in first. Check the fluid level, but it may be a slave cylinder or master cylinder not letting it disengage fully.

If its a clutch, it likely will not matter as they're considered wear items and not covered under warranty. But, if you can get it flashed back to stock, you'll just be that much more likely to get it covered or at least have the dealer not think you've been abusing the car.

It drives normal once the car is going. I think in between shifts the car will lower RPM quickly as it always had. I have noticed that the clutch engagement point will vary, meaning sometimes it will be a little past the floor and sometimes it will be half of the clutch pedal out. It seems likes it's always changing. My driving has definitely gotten clunkier because of it. My whole life I've been driving standards and I have never had a hard shift or stalled out. I've stalled twice in this car coming into 1st which should of never happened but it was because of the engagement point of the clutch. I'm used to it being normal but both of these times the engagement point was almost at the floor so I let the clutch out past the point and it just stalled. I've never had issues with a standard before except my first car which the throughout bearing went and it just squealed like no other. I replaced the whole clutch on that car and never had it happen again.

Well since it holds while driving and such sounds like its something with the release side of it. I would check the Master cyl make sure its full. Im not sure if they siphon off the brake master or they have their own reservoir. But if you put hard power and it doesn't slip one bit, I would have to say its something with the slave or master cyl also. If that's the case it should be warranty. But yes it deff sounds like a disengagement issue than an internal trans issue. Since your under warranty I would get it flashed back to stock and take it in.

I'm having a somewhat similar issue. Just picked up my car a month ago with 60k on it and nothing seemed wrong on the test drive (but we all know how that goes). When cold the transmission shifts as it should but as things warm up the car starts trying to mildly lock me out of gears and it takes a lot of thought/finesse to get it in to gear. BUT, it is not constant. Sometimes after being a pain in the butt for a bit of driving it clears up a bit and sometimes it gets worse. The clutch feels like it is functioning just fine as the engagement is smooth, pedal movement is smooth and it shows zero signs of slipping or anything once engaged.

It almost seems to be acting like a fluid issue to me. On my two other cars (evo and s2000), a simple gearbox fluid change made a very noticeable difference so I'm planning to start there since its cheap. If that doesnt do anything i'll move onto to a slave replacement/bleed, again because i can do it myself and its cheap lol.

Do you have a friendly service advisor? Through my research I became aware of 2 TSB's, 2022990 rev.4 (TOB/slave/clutch fork/arm) and 2025119 rev.2 (faulty clutch pin). If you can convince a service advisor to pull the gearbox to do those two TSB's theres a chance you could convince them to replace the clutch or at least the friction disk at a minimal additional charge

I also wanted to note that I have an aftermarket warranty, not a warranty from Audi.

I haven't really driven my car because it's nearing impossible to get into 1st or R. I have been driving my wife's car for the past few days until my mechanic gets back from vacation. But I got in the car yesterday and noticed there is no resistance getting into gear while the car is off like the other guy's post. I think at this point I am expecting a clutch replacement which is okay... I just want to drive my car normal again. :(

yeah it sounds like were really both in the same boat.

of note, my buddy at work has a 2014 running epl stage 2....and just got word he is getting a new clutch under warranty. dealership is well aware of his tune (he has not been flagged td1), was discussing with him yesterday and he brought it in for a scheduled service and mentioned to them that the clutch has some minor slip too it lately. his service manager commenting that audi seems to allow them to give each owner 1 free clutch, which i obviously found pretty interesting.

he should know in the next day or two if it is officially covered, but the dealer made him pretty confident that it isnt going to cost him anything. needless to say, ill be taking my car to them as well now.
