Feeler fix or sell S4 Avant 6 speed

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, I bought this car in October from a dealership. Long story short I got screwed, my bad I took the dealerships good faith and ended up with a smoking beast. My mechanic said bad piston rings. I did a leak down test and it came back at 6%. I still need to ship it home after if I do fix it and I'm both sure if I can float the bill. So I'm considering just selling it.

    2006 S4 Avant
    6 speed
    Exterior 8/10
    Interior 8.5/10
    Brand new miltek resonate exhaust
    Piggie pipes
Has a program, not sure what dealer

Cars in Washington. I moved back to Hawaii.
Open to offers or trades. I'm I the hole about 16k already, for the lowballers haha.
    Mahalos guys.

Throw a new motor in it or pay to have that motor torn down and rebuilt(assuming it's just rings).. Either way it will cost $5-8k depending on labor and engine/parts cost. If you sell I would expect to see approx that amount backed out of fair value.. In other words the car is prob worth $12-14k. How many miles are in it? Are the cylinders scored?

Whether you sell it or fix it you're taking a $5-8k hit. In fact its already gone. The question now is simply whether you'd like to move on or fix the car. If you move on you just take the loss. If you fix it you have to fun the repair, but you will have a working car in the end.

BTW...if it was purchased for $16k, that establishes fair market value, so IMO there is no way its worth $12-14k with a blown motor. Probably more like $8-10k.

Also, if you just bought it, I would go after the dealer for selling you a car with a blown motor. Maybe you can provide some more info on how many miles the car has and why you bought it without having a ppi done.

yea I'd never pay 12-14 for one with a blown motor. I paid $12,750 for one with an oil leak. lol. Fixed for around $100. IMHO Fix it. You will have it for a long time and it will hold it's value better with it being an avant. Plus it will have a healthy engine. $16k is high unless it has low miles and is in great shape (read: not having a blown engine). I had my choice between the one i got and an Avant, but the avant was $14k. Either way, you are going to lose in the end. You need to decide how much you want to lose

Thanks guys, lot of valid points here. I'll get more pics up when I go back to Washington to move more stuff home. Car has 107k miles. I know I should have gotten a ppi. I was to busy with work and couldn't fly to Utah. The most legal action I could take against dealer was filing a complaint with the Utah motor vehicle enforcement division. I also filed a complete paint with Audi of America and VW of America (bought from a VW dealership). As far as cylinder scoring it hasn't gotten to that yet. Car runs fine, just smokes on deceleration.

I paid $9k for my '05 Dolphin 6-speed, and it just needs an A/C compressor and the oil consumption addressed. $16k is stupid high.

OP: Interested in trading for a Candy White '08 VW R32 with very minor mods?

Hey sand, I might be interested. Got a pic? Doing some searching for a part out engine. Get that sucker rebuilt and refreshed. Then throw it in. I'm trying to think of it as building a classic... A really, really expensive one.

Edit: This first pic is with the wheels plasti-dipped gold, and they still are, but I'm about to peel it and have them refinished.

I really need to take some pics after I wash it. It has H&R springs, Bilstein Touring shocks (Both just installed about 3k miles ago), Euro dark tail lights, and a Eurojet exhaust. I plan on getting the wheels refurbished, since they have curbing.

Sounds like your valve stem seals / guides are bad..... very common problem with the S4. Either way really sucks and I'd sue that dealer in a heartbeat or make them pay the 6k for the valve train rebuild.

That's a total bummer about the car. I'd sue the dealership too or make them pay for the service. But that also could get messy and lots of paperwork. Look on the bright side though.... if you get it fixed you'll absolutely love the car. They're so fun to drive. Cheers mate and good luck to you. Keep us posted on what you end up doing and whats happening with the car.
