    Touch screen radio install

In trying to get rid of the old symphony radio and put in something a little more fancy this Christmas as a gift to myself. What are some good options for the 03 a4 1.8t? I'm not trying to go crazy expensive, just something with a little bit more appeal than the old symphony radio. I hear pioneer has some good ones around $200, but any links or suggestions would be awesome

I installed the Pioneer AVH-X2700BS. Also added the add-on nav unit and I'm pretty happy with it. If you get the Metra dash kit, make sure it all works before you fully seat the HU.

The price goes up or down from there.

There is a site that sells direct 1-1 wiring harness adapter that will plug into the stock harness and straight into the back of the radio for most radios. Unfortunately its quite expensive, but regardless if you check out enfig.com you can find what you need. You can always buy a spare pig tail and make the connections yourself if you are handy for much cheaper.

For the whole system to run right you will need to spend about $300 on the enfig kit http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...gCarStereo-com

I got a Pioneer AVH-X5700BHS and used the Enfig audio harness and it was plug and play even with the Bose system. Only compliant, the FM reception is not as good as the factory radio even with the adapter. Otherwise a big improvement over the stock radio (I also have XM).

I used the Metra and it was fairly straightforward. My car doesn't have an ACC position in the igniting switch, so it was necessary to tap into the fuse panel for ACC power. There's a few wires on the adapter aren't used. The red, and a blue for a power antenna.

Because the Pioneer units listed are video players (DVD), there's a green wire that needs to be run to the handbrake switch. There's three wires... Two brown/white wires on one side (power side), and a brown in the other. You'll need to pick one of the power wires. But that's if you have a Quattro. I would imagine you would only have one brown/white and one brown if you do not.

I actually ended up buying the Pioneer AVH270 BT Touch Screen from Crutchfield.com Wired up the harness last night and I believe I have one more wire connection to make and hopefully she will work. I mostly wanted it for the Bluetooth connectivity and the USB connection.

Since my oem system worked with the car off I assumed I didn't need to splice into the fuse box. I afterwards learned that was because the oem system had the data wire. And since aftermarket units don't understand data wires that I need the use the supplied wire and wire it into the fuse box. Then it should work. I didn't wire in the green wire to the parking brake because I figured it's just a safety feature for watching DVD's. Does it NEED to be wired in? I know the blue wire for power antenna isn't used but the red wire is for power..?

I went from a Kenwood touch screen to the RNS-E, even though it could be considered a downgrade with the Bluetooth and such. The RNSE looks so legit in the dash.

Why would crutch field design a harness that doesn't allow you to use rear speakers. I thought that's what the rca plugs were for

If I could figure out how to post pics I show you how I wired mine up

Is it the newest version of RNS-e, the -193 part number?

The green wire absolutely needs to be wired in if you want to use the DVD.

However, there are plenty of DIYs out there that tell you how to bypass it so you can use the DVD without having the handbrake engaged.

Unfortunately, I found it only after I had pulled my console, ran the wire, then reassembled everything.

Maybe when I do the B6 to B7 center console conversion.

The Crutchfield harness does work for the rear speakers.

The crutchfield harness does work on the rear speakers but they will be a bit quietier than the fronts. Nothing a little fade can't fix. I will recommend getting the Enfig mounting kit, as the Metra cannot be removed after being installed. I have a spare Enfig dash kit if anyone wants it (I was able to squeeze my hand in back to get the sub plugged in and didn't need to remount).

After a week or two of using my system I have some feedback. First off yes, the Crutchfield harness works and uses RCA/AV plugs for the rear speakers. I cant get over how well the sock speakers work. The bass and sound quality is INCREDIABLE!! Also I was able to remove my system from the dash very carefully with a small blade screw driver, even thou every one says it's impossible. My rear antenna booster is cracked (common Audi problem) and I couldn't get shit for reception using the stock radio. Everyone says when you switch to an aftermarket deck your reception gets worse. Not true in my case. The aftermarket system makes the shitty cracked antenna booster sound like new. Also after having USB I realized how nice and handy it is vs. having to connect your phone to Bluetooth.

Even the old one looks amazing compared to most aftermarket radios. Plus, what beats navigation directions in the instrument cluster? An option you will not find with an aftermarket radio.

FM reception sucks b/c our stock radios control the way the antenna uses it 3 antennas I believe, so without that the reception sucks. I actually left the antenna cable unplugged b/c reception was worse. If I move that antenna plug up near my rear view though reception is way better. I almost never listen to the radio anyways though so no biggie for me.

I purchased the AVH270BT Pioneer from Crutchfield.com. When you select your system you will have an option of adding everything else you need (removal tools, wiring harness, and dash install kit) You'll save $$$ by buying everything as one. I first added the wiring harness $30, removal tools$15, and dash kit $30 in my cart before adding the radio. Then I realized if you add the radio first it will find everything you need and include it as a "kit" I think I only paid like a couple bucks for the wiring harness and dash kit, and literally cents for the removal tools. Total bill was $210. The Radio was originally $280 but they had a sale so it was marked for $200.
