My Audi 2007 Audi A4 2.0 TDIquattro - 2.7 biturbo swap, approved by DMV

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello!
My name is Julian and i live in the middle of Norway.
    I bought a 2007 B7 2.0 tdi quattro for a couple of years ago.
    The color is Lava Grey
This summer i filled in a application to change my engine and sent it off to the norwegian department of motor vehicles (Statens Vegvesen)
Surprisingly, they approved my application, based on my argument that the raw chassi of the A4 B7 is the same as the S4 B7. The V8 in the S4 has higher emissions than the 2.7 biturbo, and based on that I got it approved :)
I also need to change my brakes into 3.2 FSI brakes, and use the original exhaust, cats, ECU and all the original harness from the 2.7 donor-car.
Ive recently started collecting the parts I need for my project, but I aint expecting any assembling in the upcoming year tho. If things go well I will have the only legal B7 with 2.7biturbo in Norway

Some pics from when I bought it

    In 2014 i got myself some 19" RS6-2`s

And before this season i bought 18" Alphards

Before the winter kicked in I installed the upgraded frontbrakes from a 3.2 FSI. 288x25mm vs 321x30mm

    Before

    After

Im planning to install the JHM RS6-R turbos on the engine, combined with upgraded internals and exhaust.
Then it will be some modding to make this work with the b7 wiring

Since the cluster needs to be swapped from a diesel to a petrol one, why not buy a Rs4 cluster?

Im having some difficulties reading the PIN from both housings.. the VAG Tacho appears to read the instrument ECU (RB8) but after reading it, it says "OK!" but the "Read PIN" button is still greyed out..
Have to look further into this.
    Anyhow, it looks kinda sexy!

A quick photo of how the car looks right now :)

This weekend me and my buddy drove 11hours to North-Sweden and got myself a 2003 Audi A6 2.7 biturbo manual (250hp) with the right enginecode, BES :)

Now its time to rip this car apart ;D

I`ve now removed the BES engine from the C5 bay :)
Had to drop down the subframe to get it out, very very narrow down there!

I have also got my RS4 cluster installed :) Looks pretty awesome, even tho its a diesel (for now :D)

A couple of quick photos of the car from today :)

I`ve started the teardown of the engine

The engine block looks pretty dirty.. looking forward to giving it some love and care!

Measured the cylinder wear to 2/100 (metric). Its pretty good for a engine with 250.000km on it

    The work-bench :D

Yeah, I need to change the tank. I dont know if I can use the diesel-lines yet, but my guess is that it will work if the connections are the same

I can see I`ve forgot to update you guys here!
Here comes all updates since september
    2.0 TDI engine out

The weight of the 2.0 TDI engine, 210 KG

Checked my 02X gearbox while I was at it just for fun, 76 kg :)

Spacerplate checked out nicely, biturbo spacerplate fits on the 02X

Then it was just one thing left to do, pair the engine block and gearbox to see how it fits!

And voilà, 2.7 biturbo paired with 02X quattro box :)

Testing the fitment of the engine on its mountings

Fits perfectly on the trans and engine mounts :)

    Left and right enginemount

    Transmission mount fits up 100%

The snubmount was going to be a problem, which I was aware of. This forum claims that the 3.0 snubmount and frontplate will fit, but thats not correct. More information coming below...

I also read that the OEM downpipes wouldnt fit on B6. Thats wierd, the B6 and B7 isnt any different?

Well, in my B7 it fits perfectly :)

    Here`s the left downpipe

    And the right one

The downpipes slides pass the trans mounting aswell ;)

Ofcourse I had to test my headers and intake pipes to see how it looked :D

According to the audizine forums the 3.0 engine mount would fit, so I bought that..

2.7 biturbo mount to the left, 3.0 V6 to the right

So here is the 2.7 biturbo snub

And heres the 3.0.... mismatch aswell

so then I had to do some measuring, and finally I got my hands on a 3.2 FSI front section

3.2 FSI from B7 that is, so the whole frontframe is bolt-on

3.2 frame at the top, 2.0 TDI in the bottom

So then we had to check how this badboy fitted on the engine mount

And yeah, it was a match! :) Now the engine is fitted 100% on OEM mounts

Santa came with some snacks for my engine, so we can start on the engine right away:)

very nice, but it has always been known on here that you needed the core support from a 3.0/3.2 from for the snub mount, cant wait to see another swap running.
