    Suspension setup recommendation

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I posted this in the suspension sticky but thinking that thread probably doesn't get much traffic these days, apologies for the double post.

Hey guys - looking for some recommendations. Car is a 2015 s5 with black optics wheels (ti rotors). Car will be getting a set of Bilstein coilovers, no new wheels. I'm open to getting some spacers to help clean up the look but I'm in need of some recommendations on ride height as well as alignment. Car is my dd and beyond a boring commute the most action it sees is freeway on ramps and interchanges with a possible trip through the canyons. I'll be doing the full ecode suspension suite (bars, end links, alu kreuz) at the same time.

What do people recommend for ride height (ftg?) - I want zero chance of rubbing!

What about wheel alignment - are most people going with factory alignment specs? I don't want to have to purchase adjustable upper control arms if I don't have to; I think my goal is somewhere in the 1-1.25" drop which I've read should mean no control arms necessary?

    Thanks!

I dropped mine by 30mm running 20x10.5 rims and have no issues with rubbing on my PSS10's. I had the alignment done after install (highly recommended with any suspension change, regardless) and the fronts are out of the manufacturers recommended settings by a very small margin, but the tyre wear remains even it appears so is not causing any concern at this time (6 months)

However time will tell but tbh I don't think they are not going to be needed.

I ran PSS10 and full Eurocode set up up on my 2011 S5. I settled on a 1" drop and had no issues with stock OEM split spoke wheels. You will need spacers though, the drop made the wheels appear more tucked in. I ran 15/20mm for perfect flush look. It looked great and no issues. It was also my DD.

I've got the same wheels. Summer I run 26" FTG and Winter 27" FTG. Spacers are 15 front and 20 rear. Great stance and no rubbing at all.

1.25" and 15/20mm spacers, and you'll have no issues. If you EVER did rub, it would be in a dip, trunk full, and you'd only touch the rear carpet liner. As for alignment, you'll be able to get very close. Not worth the cost of the arms. I've always said, by the time you purchase the arms and install, I'm not sure you'll ever realize savings, even if you do loose say $75 in tread per set of tires. If that makes sense.

Very happy with my set up...you can see it in signature line. Virtually no rubbing, only on the biggest of bumps and like Mops said, its in the back on the liner. No big deal. I ran OEM wheels for a couple years with 15/20 spacers worked fine.

Thanks guys - went with the recommended spacers and brought the car down to 26" FTG. Love the look and handles great!

Is it normal that the rear wheel looks pushed toward the rear of the rear wheel well? <== scratch that, just a camera angle thing! Duh...

Looks great! Have to admit that it was a tough choice for me between black and the Sepang.

Quite well actually! The comfort mode is more comfortable than the factory S suspension and the sport mode is very composed in the turns. It's nice to be able to switch with the push of a button. The highways in California are not the greatest and there was a definite improvement in ride comfort.

So if one did not want to run spacers, the rims would have an offset of 25? i have spacers now but when I get a new set of rims I don't want to run them. PITA with longer bolts, lining up etc.

Depends on the wheel. I'm on stock black optic 19x9" wheels with a 33 et. Throw the 15/20 spacer on there and that shifts the offset by the same amount, so 18et front and 13 et rear. If you go +1" wider wheel then a 25et would make more sense.

Love the look - wish I'd gone for Sepang!! Thinking of having my Glacier White wrapped. On spacers, would 15/20 work with stock suspension and OEM 20" wheels?

*probably? Better to let one of the more knowledgeable guys answer that question as I'm not sure what the 20" wheel option specs are.
