I see radio codes being sold in eBay for about 20 bucks. Not sure about how they get it though.

Lol they probably cal AoA themselves. I heard encryption on the newer radios was tough to beat. On older radios they connect some pins to read the eeprom and software decrypts the pin.

Stupid question -- what are the downsides of not having a radio coded? I recently VAGCOM'ed my car, and the radio came up as being "not coded" or something similar. The radio was replaced by the dealer from the previous owner and everything seems to be working fine, FWIW.

The radio will be in "safe" mode and won't work. Different issue then how it is coded in vcds to the car.

The radio seems to work fine in my car, so safe to say it's a non-issue even though VAGCOM flagged it? On an unrelated note, where in Mass. are you p0ison? :D

You'd see "safe" on the radio display and wouldn't be able to use it until the radio key is entered.

    I'm in Worcester, you?

I've been told; haven't verified, you can call AOA and give them any VIN and they will tell you the code. Doesn't matter if it was your car's or not.

And actually i just tried this even though i had both the vin and radio serial, and the rep said i need both. I think this may be based upon how much he/she upholds security protocols.

And a quick question, does anyone know the correct button combo to stop displaying safe so I can enter the code? For symphony 2+

So you were able to get the code? I bet you could call them back and get a different rep. I remember doing this on an insurance quote one time. It was my parents insurance (I had their permission to do this) and I was trying to figure out how much adding a car would change the price. They said I needed to be my father, so I called back and made sure this time I was my father. [LOL]

Code has been received. Do you know the button combo to stop displaying "SAFE" so I can enter the code?
