Wires Short on Back of Climate Control

I went on a two hour drive yesterday and about halfway through the drive started smelling something burning. Took out the climate control and found what you see in the picture below. Got the wire shorting unplugged from the back but what is odd is I can't tell what this controls. When I leave it unplugged everything in the climate control works just fine. So does anyone know what this controls? I can only guess it's for the heated seats which I do not have...

This is a 01 S4 for the record

I looked at the wiring diagrams and it shows only 4 plugs going to the unit not 5. If you want to look yourself PM me your email and I'll send it.

That's interesting. Heated seats are green connectors that small one is just for the hvac controls
