Hah, I didn't even know this was a thing. So that's what those rectangular things are.. (or were - apparently there aren't actually headlight washers on US cars 2012+)

Do the S6 have these? I wondered if they do but have never seen them pop out.

As kenny mentioned we certainly have the flaps for them on our bumpers. I read on AW that you need to hold the windshield washing stalk for >=3 seconds to activate the headlamp washers on C7... not sure if it's true and not really that interested in making a mess all over my car to go find out

Per my manual.....The headlight washer system only functions when the lights are on. The headlights are cleaned automatically the first time the lever is pressed in position and every 8 times it is pressed after that. They are also cleaned every time you hold the lever in position for longer than 8 seconds. Not sure if it's different for the C7.5.

Never saw headlight washers activate on my 14 a6. Didn't think the us cars had them. I'll have to play with them on the s6. Sorry don't have an answer to your question.

Headlamp washers (and automated self levelling) are a legal reqirement in the UK and many other European countries, if you have any non-halogen lighting solution fitted to your car (Xenon, LED, Matrix, Laser etc.)

They only operate when the headlights are on and you operate the windscreen washer. Pull, hold for a few seconds - headlamp washers pop out and blast the headlights and then automatically retract.

As the OP states, they don't operate every time, but every few times you activate the windscreen washers. (Unless you do a long pull on the washer lever) This is to save water for the windscreen. Can't say I've actually counted the number of cycles needed before the headlights get sprayed.

If you have the caps fitted, then you likely have the headlight washers, as the caps are themselves clipped to the pop-up washer assembly.

Audi cars with standard halogen lighting have standards bumpers (fenders) with no caps.

My experience Is that US audi had washer holes but not tank and pipes until you paid for this option.
In mine a7 I used cufatek cable and needed new tank with pumps and pipes and sprays. Plus small vcds coding.

In EU if you have xenon/led you have to had washers installed by law.
