    Question Figuring out VAG-COM codes..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm just curious how guys figure out wtf the code on their VAG-COM means?

Besides posting online, do you guys use a Bentley or what to figure it out, is there something to accompany the VAG?

I'd like to be able to diagnose some codes myself w/o having to post...

The unregistered version only shows the definition for one or two. Maybe that's what russian has.

it says what it is, such as "too rich" or "bad o2 sensor" but i mean, id like more in depth...

    like what part exactly, etc.

and my version is fully registered...

I see. I think you can find what you are looking for in the Bentley CD or web access service.

They have guides to walk you through the troubleshooting process and isolate what the problem might be.

The only limitation is that they assume you have access to all VAG tools and equipment and sometimes you'll run into a troubleshooting step that tells you something like "connect VAG xyz scanner" which you obviously don't have and don't even know wtf it is.

Other than that, I think it's the closest thing to what you're looking for.

Ross-tech has the Bentely CD at a lowered price for registered vag-com users.

Better yet, go here and purchase a three day web access subscription for $19.95. That'll give you the opportunity to look around and see if it is what you need.

If you dont have the registred version what you can do is log channel 20. That's what we need to see. My guess is misfires causing rich condition. My guess is also that you timing is through the roof. Post channel 20 logs and we'll have a look. cheers! Mike

that's weird my VAG-COM says things like:

"1 Fault: Misfire Cyc.2, it's ok this was just a random glitch"

"1 fault: MAF signal too low, you need to fix the plug it's just loose"

"1 fault: throttle position signal too high, the throttle body is fucked, get a new one"

Lol, just kidding!! gotta use bentley
