Getting Power into the Glove for appletv and a router?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm considering, as I noted in another post, of putting an appletv or roku in the glove of my B8.5 S4.

What is the best way to get enough power into the glove to power the appletv and router? Can any installer do this so that the power comes on when the car is turned on?

    thx

I would think you need an inverter.

You could probably mount a power inverter somewhere under the dash and run it to that with a switch that u can turn on when u turn the car on. How do you plan on getting Internet to a standard router? Are you running a carrier hotspot or what is your plan?

Can be displayed on MMI using RCA cables and an hdmi to ECS adapter. I confirmed this does work. You the turn on WIFI and you can mirror your iPhone.

Using the S4 wifi creates a unified network for you to to do Airplay mirroring with. You can also use your phone as a hotspot to mirror as well. Any internet connection will allow your Apple TV to function...but I was focused on the mirroring aspect for those that want to use Google Maps or Waze.

Worth a try with a lightning to HDMI adapter, then HDMI to RCA, then the RCA to MMI cable. That's a lot of adapters...not sure what the losses look like in all that.

You also have visible wiring from the cockpit to the glove box. An Apple TV gives you a wireless Airplay solution. I am considering mounting the inverter and Apple TV in the trunk in the MMI rack and routing only the rca cables to the glove box and running Airplay on as required. No remote needed under normal circumstances (airplay mirroring)...I can also use the remote app on my phone when absolutely required.
