Ive got an 03 a4 with about 165k miles. I need some new suspension parts(to many trips to the Home depot). Do I need to do the shocks only or shocks and springs? What is the cheapest option to go with? I dont need coil overs and am just looking for a good sporty day to day setup.

springs are fine as long as you don't want to lower them. I would look at all the other stuff though like control arms and spring seats. all that rubber if you are still running the OEM stuff is probably shot.

I have new control arm kit but I am sure the stock sport shocks are finally gone. So I am looking for a good replacement option instead of stock.

Koni seems to be the go to setup for most people. I run the Koni Yellows, other run the FSD's, which are like 20% more expensive than the yellows, but they are self adjusting. I've had my Koni Yellow's for about 18 months now and I've liked them. Sure the ride is somewhat stiff, but thats because I adjusted them that way to fight the car from diving when turning or braking.

If you have the OEM Sport suspension, check to make sure the springs are ok and not cracked. If they're good, then you only need to replace the struts. Bilsteins are a great replacement to the OEM struts. They're on sale now over at ECS Tuning.

^ when you say cracked you mean just hairline cracking or do you mean broken crack?

If there's a hair line crack it will eventually lead to a broken spring. Better to replace it now if its showing a hair line crack then to have a busted spring later on requiring more labor.
