I have a 2006 A4 2.0t Quattro with 100,000 miles on it and i have had it since it had 88k on it and it has always sounded weird to me (and friends & family). Just sounds like now that its Winter it its more pronounce when its cold and first started.

    Sounds 100% normal.

That's the closet engine sound video I've heard to my car...I'm at 90k miles.

No doesnt sound like its getting louder, just sounds a bit different in the cab being cold outside and first starting it (havent had the car in Winter yet, got it in April). Yeah a buddy I work with said he had an 06 a4 avant 2.0 and it sounded the same. If its normal then thats awesome but ive read a lot about the cam chain/tensioner? That DIY thread icutrauma1 linked (BenMTL is actually the 3rd comment lol) seems to point out that its a very hard/expensive job to get replaced.

That sounds normal, the cam chain tensioner has more of clacking sound and its quite obvious from the rest of the noise coming from the engine.

I've had that same issue before. It only happanes during extreme cold Temps. My car is parked on the streets. Temps drop to about 30 overnight and if it's anything below 40° out, it'll make that sound but goes away in less than a minute or so. Ironically my car is at the dealership and they said it's fine on that side( tensioner isn't bad) which I found surprising since they always coming up with an issue to get extra $$

So yeah. Maybe it's the tensioner, maybe it's just due to weather. As long as it goes away as temp rises. But then again, keep a close look out to it.

I still want to get the tensioner replaced as preventive maintenance
