Flickering Bi-Xenon Headlights. Both sides shut off and turn back on.

A couple weeks ago I was stopped in a drive through and thought my driver side headlight went out for a moment. I wasn't sure because the fluorescent lights were pretty bright and I couldn't tell if it was maybe just a shadow as a car moved, or perhaps someones brake lights flashed off and back on or what. No codes or anything at that time. When I got out to check the lights everything looked fine and was working properly.

Then a few nights ago my passenger headlight went out. I turned the light switch to off and then back on and both headlights came on. Then they both shut off a few seconds later. I got into my driveway and they flickered on and off a couple more times and the cluster lit up with the error light. Sometimes just the driver side, sometimes just the passenger side, and sometimes both sides went out. After turning the switch on and off a few times they finally both came back on, the cluster light went off, and everything has been fine for the past few days, but obviously the underlying issue is not resolved.

Ran a search and came across this thread: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ckering+lights
    and this thread http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...hlight=working
but Im not sure if it describes the same issue im having. In any case, the cheap ballast repair Phil talked about is not possible because there was no part # for the transformers and caps he used.

Im hoping its just the bulbs, but why would they both begin to flicker at the same time? I had no issues the first 2 months I owned the car.
How can I tell if the ballasts are going bad? Is there a test I can run on them other than changing teh bulbs then teh ballasts and waiting to see if the problem to reoccurs? (although again, it seems weird that both ballasts would start to go bad at exactly the same time, no?).
Also, anyone have a good source for ballasts if I have to go that route? They are ridiculously expensive from the dealer.

Really hoping its not some random wiring issue. Tracking down electrical gremlins is my worst nightmare.

I had similar problem changed the bulbs, problem still there. It's worse when cold. Almost as if the arc needs to warm up in order to stabilize. Any thoughts?

had the same problems with the passenger light. Lights would constantly flicker then would get the dipped headlight error. Cycling the headlights on and off would usually fix the issue.

A bulb change fixed the issue, been a year without incident so far.

I see these options on Amazon:

    Sylvania $60 per bulb:
    https://www.amazon.com/SYLVANIA-High...=d1s+hid+bulbs

    Kensun $61 per pair:
    http://www.amazon.com/Xenon-Headligh...ords=d1s+bulbs

    Innovited $30 per pair:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=sr_1_2&sr=8-2

Im pretty tempted to go with Innovited just to see if it solves my problem for cheap. Even if they only last a year, Ill know if the bulbs were the issue and I can then replace them with higher quality bulbs when needed.
    Thoughts?

    EDIT
Found some Osram 66144 bulbs on Ebay for $34 per pair w/ free shipping:

Cant beat that price for Osrams right?

At that price and shipping out of China I would be shocked if they are not knockoffs.
