Headlight HID bulb exploded, need help

    Hello Audizine,

Today my left low/high beam bulb malfunction light came on the dash randomly

My car is a 14 with 53k miles

So I tried to switch the left and right bulbs to see if its a burnt out bulb

turns out that the left bulb have exploded in the housing and shattered glass bits inside

not even sure why... is this common for Audis?

How do I get the broken glass out? Can I ignore it and just install a new bulb?

anything that I should be aware of? thanks!

Damn must be a fluke, i wouldn't worry about it too much, if you're anal like me I'd pull the headlight assembly out and tip the opening towards the ground and empty out all the glass shards. I'm sure you'll be fine installing another bulbs in there. Off topic but you have a 14' with 53k miles on it, you drive alot. I have a 10' with 45k miles. I do have a work beater tho.

I never heard of this before happening on a luxury car. Somebody must have done something. Strange.

I would take the headlight out and shake the glass out, just take the top two screws off and loosen the one on each side of the headlight and it comes right out. takes 5 min max. HIDConcept has a good deal on OEM replacements right now.

Don't forget to disconnect the hose on bottom inside edge of each light

Don't touch the bulb with your hands when replacing. The oil from your hands can get on the bulb and cause the bulb to pop like that.

Searched exploded hid bulb and this thread came up.

Just happened to me. DIS alarm at first, then when I pulled out the bulb the glass was shattered. I used small pick to pull out most of pieces, but not sure how this happened. Purchased my car second handed and bulbs been fine in the last 6 months I owned.

Man this must be a thing. My 2013 with 48k miles just had the driver side bulb go out. Pull it out and it was in pieces. I'm the original owner so kind of crazy that this happens after 6 years. No going quietly into the night, they go out with a bang.

Had this happen on my 2014 at about 38k miles. $1,800 to repair, but under warranty. Dealer said it was a first for them.

What the heck was there to repair? Did they replace the entire assembly? Only damage i had was the bulb.
