What The Crap Is Going On Here

So I'm looking at this 2005.5 a4 with 89,xxx. It has an oil leak on the intake side of the lower block I'm guessing it is pcv or oil cooler related?? Also noticed I could see what looked to be the clutch spinning from outside the transmission in a hole which looked like it was missing a sensor. What's going on here?

The open hole i'm pretty sure is a spot for where the speed sensor goes for v6 tfsi motors. It's just there b/c they share the same transmission. As far as the oil it could be from a sloppy oil change. That photo is from the driver side, correct? Remeber the oil filter housing on 2.0t fsi motors is plastic, so that is prone to cracking and possibly leaking. More photos would help for sure.

So the hole is normal? It shouldn't be blocked off or anything?? This is the only other picture I took, not too great.

Nah, the hole is fine. You can buy a plug for it, but it doesn't matter...unless maybe you're prone to dropping bolts in hard to reach places.

I would clean that oil off, start your car and see if it's leaking and if so, from where. If it's not leaking yet, go for a short drive, see if leak starts. Keep checking it until you see the leak again and narrow it down/pinpoint it.

The gasket between the block and oil filter housing is leaking. There are two gaskets associated with that repair, so might as well do both.

    1) all B7 A4 2.0s have that hole...bought a $5 cover for it with screw on ECS

    2) oil cooler leak or oil filter housing leak...Common problem, my car is currently leaking a bit of oil like that too, bought 2 x rubber gaskets on GAP for like $30

Thanks for the replies. I decided to skip on the car, I found a better deal on a 2007 2.0t A4. Car just needs a valve cover gasket and while I'm at it I'm going to do the Pcv and cam follower.
