I hear the modding opportunities on the tip tranny isn't 100% hopeless! From what I've gathered, torque is what kills the tip tranny/ causes issues.
I have a stock 1998 1.8T Quattro tip. (AEB engine)
I'm looking at installing a T3/T4 50 trim .63 turbo, as the 50 trim is apparently the best for stock displacement, and the .63 takes longer to spool, saving on the tranny a little bit, making it a suitable, safe upgrade, right?? If this is true, would getting a high-flow exhaust manifold for the .63 have a significant effect on spool up time and prove to be a bad idea for the tip tranny?
I believe I could reach the 300hp range with this set-up, and at that point should I be worried about the stock clutch risking failure? I figure I could simply combat/prevent this by getting a transmission oil cooler and using better transmission oil, though if a upgraded clutch is highly recommended, so be it . I hear the AEB is one of, if not the strongest block, and its bottom end should handle the hp and torque with ease, though should I still be worried about my rods? I imagine I should get some IE forged rods to be safe as they're typically the only weak points in this plan. Would a really good set of bearings for the crank/rods, be a really good idea as well??
As for supporting this upgrade to a T3/T4 50 trim .63 I believe I'll need the following (please let me know if I'm missing items/ horribly off for something things ) :
440cc/630cc Injectors
3" MAF
T3/T4
Manifold
CTapp or Unitronic tune (Unitronic is much closer to where I live so I'm highly debating going with them, although from what I read I'll need a 4" MAF if I go with Ctapp 630cc. Can the same be said for Uni??)
3" TIP (Is it best to have an exhaust shop custom-bend a steel straight pipe for me so then I can be sure it won't cave in?)
Afpr
Mbc
Fuel pump
Intake
Mounts
Clutch
Fmic
New oil lines
Exhaust system (turbo back highly reccommended?)
***Though the fpr, injectors, and MAF I get is determined by what tune I get, correct?***
