    Automatic Wipers add-on Solution?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Obviously our cars didn't come with an automatic or rain sensing wiper system, but has anyone looked into a retrofit from a different model or possible a aftermarket solution? So far I haven't found much of anything.

Yes, I live in Seattle so I'm sure you can understand why I'm asking.

    You're crazy.

I'm sure there is as this technology has been around for a long time. I just can't imagine having the desire to pay for it, wire it up, and have yet another electrical sensor that will go bad. but to each their own.

It's probably possible, but it's not going to be easy without significant wiring. What I'd recommend over anything else is coating your glass with any number of glass coatings which will allow the water to fly off the glass and keep things much clearer even in pouring rain. Some options:

    - Opti Glass (best out there IMO)
    - CarPro flyby30
    - RainX (not as durable)

The better coatings out there like Opti Glass can last for years, and you can look up how it performs on youtube if videos help.

It's nice, but there is no way I would go to the trouble to install it.

I just wish the wipers were on, they would automatically go to intermittent when the car was stopped like bmw has been doing since the early 90's
the B5 S4 is like the mafia... there is only one way out!

They [Audi] gave the driver full control. The way it should be.

from a fellow PNW'r who sees plenty of rain... I hate them, and everyone else I know who has the Audi or VW rain sensors does too. My touareg has them and its never just the right speed or timing. I much prefer being able to set them on my own and adjust accordingly. Now the comfort blink module retrofit... that would be worth retrofitting IMO

Some Golf Mk IV has factory rain sensors, from that chassis you can easily retro-fit.

That's a pretty easy retrofit, on my list of things to do eventually:

That's a popular mod in the Golf and Passat world, but it's more of a plug and play for them since it has those capabilities but VW only installed automatic sensors in a small number of those model years.

You could do that 3 blink retrofit with 2 dei pulse timers. They are $15. It's a simple relay that holds charge for a timed amount(adjustable with a screwdriver.

You could place it anywhere inline between stalk and whatever takes the input to make the turn sigs blink. Then adjust it to run the exact time of 3 blinks. You'd essentially run each on each side of the car and wire it so that if the opposite side gets triggered (a wanted cancel is invoked) it will cut power to the running timer.

I'll have order a couple and make a diy

it rains so much there just leave the wipers on forever. its basically what will happen with a sensor anyway.

    Please do!

I was trying to figure out a way to allow that to operate in the manner you described, but was going about it all wrong. I didnt even consider the components you mentioned. Looking forward to your writeup
