hi this is Joe, I have a question for the zine.
When I start my car it takes 4 -5 seconds to start. Cranks cranks cranks thrn finally it starts. After sitting for an hour or so it does the same thing. But if I start it and turn it off then start it again, it starts back up rite away in 1 second .I have no codes, I have had this issue since my 044 fuel pump was installed like 5 years ago I think!

You could add a check valve to keep the fuel in the fuel line coming from the tank, or you could also try priming ur car before starting it(key forward for 5 Seconds then back to off then back forward for 5 Seconds and then try starting)

You're losing fuel pressure. If you put the car in accessory for several seconds before you crank to prime it, does it start right up?

I have this issue. I had an 044 now a lph450 pump. Changed my crank sensor, FPR, & coolant temp sesnor. Sometimes my first crank starts it up right away sometimes not. Problem normally exists after I drive it and start it up about an hour or so later. I'm lost, sounds similar. In for suggestions.

I am stage 3 - doesn't happen on my e85 tune, Idk if you are tuned but I have read my 93 fuel trims are probably off during warm start - I've played with lemmi but still did not help.

You may want to make sure you don't have a leak somewhere near the engine that could cause a fire at some point.

Seeing bad gas mileage? Smell fuel at all? Could be a leaky injector. Seen this happen before with same symptoms you have.

Like said above, since your problem started right after 044 installation, somebody forgot to install a in-line check valve so you're losing fuel pressure. Unlike virtually all aftermarket pumps on the market, 044 doesn't have a built in check valve.

Another cause could be a vacuum leak, to confirm you need to look your long term fuel trims on vag-com. If they are over +/-10%, could be an indication of a leak assuming your fueling isn't an issue. However, if the check valve is bad I could see that being a hindrance to fuel flow so that could also cause problems.

I'm installing my new check valve next week so will report back.

My car has had the same issue since install. Recently found a pin hole size leak in the fuel line outlet at the pump allowing it to bleed off pressure. Replaced the line and it now starts after a half a crank everytime.

Mine does it too on a cold start. Just turn the key on for a few seconds before trying to turn it over.

Ok so I bought an inline checkvalve for the soft line outside the fuel pump and also a new check valve kit from 034.
    This should do the trick!

Nice, I saw that BMW DIY too but I don't want the check valve already in there to stay in especially if it's not functioning properly. So I'm going to use the Bosch check valve and keep in the original location.

Get the cap in this DIY. A legit 044 should already have the check-valve built in. Just need the cap

    Maybe dude is a wizard

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.
