S7 falls on it's face at to of gear

I was hoping someone else has run across this before and can share experiences. My 2014 S7 had the APR ecu/tcu tune, milltek full exhaust with no cats, and intake and at the top of first gear under full throttle it absolutely falls on it's face.

It is extremely pronounced if i launch the car like it is bogging down from being way too rich or not firing at all. It is with the car warm at full throttle or cooler at 3/4 it stutters at nearly the top of the gear.

The APR mobile shows two lines in DTC but they both state that the code wasn't found in all three description lines and there is not a number associated with either of them.

This happens nearly every time in first gear under load (read boost) and I'm trying to figure out how I can diagnose or if it might be a common issue.

Thanks for the help as always!

Post a video. I've got the regular tune with Milltek non-res and it charges hard under throttle through the gears to redline.

My S6 has done that since it started getting cold, if you really get on it ,at the top of the gear the entire car will lurch forward and it's like the car just sits in neutral for a second or two. I eliminated the issue by turning off traction control.

Traction control or spark plug issue. Ever re-gap your plugs after your tune? My twin turbo SHO had to be re-gapped significantly from OEM gap setting after tune to eliminate this issue at high RPMs.

Gapped to what? APR doesn't mention this, I'm interested in more information

I would be interested in knowing as well. When launching, traction control is off. Smokes all four tires up to top of the gear and then falls flat. Totally wondered about plugs/coilpacks.

Is anyone running a step cooler plug, which plugs, and what gaps?

I have to bow out at this point - not sure about Audi with the 4.0T. But my 3.5T Ford SHO came gapped from factory around .035-.040 and post tune had to re-gap to around 0.28-0.30.

APR does mention a particular brand of spark plugs gapped to a specific number with their RS6/7 tune, and I believe their S6 Stage 3 tune. You'd have to look at their website to get the specific info. I have not heard of those requirements being specified for the S6/7 v1.1. tune, however.

are you running 1.1 APR software?

I had this problem last year, but it went away with the 1.1 software update

It had just been updated to the latest patch with the file for the testpipes that it has on it. Still an issue.

So just for a bump, anyone running different plugs at cooler temps and different gaps?

I saw this issue again today even with traction control off. The car just totally cuts power, lurches forward, and feels like it is going to stall out or something.

I'm wondering if it's a cold weather thing. I also notice my tachometer dialing back the redline very frequently, even in normal driving, to 4k or 5.2k at random times. After the car falls on its face, it drops to 4k. Roccorace, what are the ambient temps when you experience this?

It has been around 30. Also, I have an intake without a nice surround like the AWE and wonder if that further contributes. I have a few calls out about plugs temps and gaps as well.

Does somebody have a cell phone video of this happening? Pm me if you do and I'll get it to the calibrators.

If Rocco is unable to get one by next Monday, I will get one then (out of town). Thanks for your quick attention to this, Sean!

I would re-gap your plugs if I were you. There's a YouTube video of a 2013 or '14 Ford Taurus SHO on a dyno after getting a tune but NOT re-gapping the plugs and it falls on it's face every time at high RPMs. He re-gapped the plugs to .030 and ran perfect! It's just the nature of a twin turbo engine with increased boost. The gaps have to be shortened.

Makes sense but I want to know which plugs are recommended for a step cooler plus recommended gap. Sean, any thoughts?

Spark plugs are way outside my knowledge realm. I'll check with the people that know after New Years (Winter is our slow time, so just about everybody takes off the last couple weeks of December).

That happens because Vw/Audi don't document whatever code it's throwing. Trust me, it's just as annoying to us. There's hundreds of codes the ECU can throw that don't exist anywhere in any documentation. The only thing we can do is disassemble the ECU and try to trace the code back to a specific event.

While we're waiting for calibration to return from holiday, try logging the misfire group. If the misfire counter increases, then log one of the fueling diagnosis groups. The most common misfire issue on 4L cars is fueling related. That particular issue also doesn't always throw a readable code.

The other possibility is a boost issue, but those tend to throw normal, documented faults.

Finally, it could be a spark plug issue. But, we've flashed so many of these that I have a hard time thinking stock plugs aren't up to the task. Obviously, what our calibrators recommend is better, but I really think stock is good enough.

Got my Ross-tech cable and this came up:

Should this happen? Do I need to buy cancellation plugs or is this something I can turn off in VCDS?
