    034 dogbone mount review

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recieved the "version 1" dogbone mount for my a3 today . Install was extremely simple and easy but removing the bolt was a bitch ! They tighten those things like crazy. The mount slide right in and I tightened it up as much as I could . I took the car for a spin around the block and what a difference ! There's not a single vibe in the car but all the rough shifting has been completely eliminated . Everything is as smooth as it should be from stock. Deffinetly recommend this to everyone !!

What's the torque spec of the bolt? Was it version 1 or version 2 you ordered?

torque spec was "tightened it up as much as I could", I'm not sure if that's a good idea, especially with something as finicky as the dsg. Mikey, you need to torque that to 100 Nm.

Any way to know whether to get Version 1 or 2 without looking under the car?

All S3's are version 1 I believe. I got under to check though. IIRC only golf's may be version 2.

Ordered, just hope it makes as big a difference as people say

Anyone else have thoughts on this to share? Any confirmation on what type the 2015 S3 requires? I'm in Canada so I'd like to order and ship it once.

I've been reading up on these dogbone mounts and I can't seem to understand the advantages of these units vs what Audi installed at time of build.
I mean should there not be some sort of play with the factory mount vs no play with an aftermarket mount - the vibration must be present for a reason, no?
Do we have long term tests/reports on these mounts?

Inquiring minds would like to know - :)

Only way to know for sure is to get under your car and take a look. Will only take a minute. I am hearing that the early S3s are version 1 and late 2015/2016s are version 2 but that's not confirmed.

I was thinking this same thing...may be worth asking the guys at 034 either through their site or on the thread for this part.

I installed mine this week and there is a noticeable difference in the 'tightness' of the car. Wish I'd done it sooner! No added vibes.

I have no experience with the audis but I have had plenty with Subaru, Honda accord's, and Honda civic's. if its anything like those, it will put more vibrations into the cabin of the car. it will be much more harsher. with no experience with the audi S3 cars, I don't know how much harsher it will be as that would be my question too. each car is different and each part is different, they all will do different things at different attachment points. on some of my past cars I changed out all of them and some just a couple.

for sure this will make the car feel less of a soft/comfort car and allow you to feel more of what the engine is doing. as someone above said, yes there should be some play so keep the vibrations down but some owners want that feel back. how much this does bring to the cabin, only the ones with it on will be able to tell us.

from the picture, it looks like it is reducing forward and back engine movement, which means it will not be so harsh, but I could be wrong.

Did mine in 10 minutes, taking my time. I am still new to car work and being under the car made me a little nervous despite using two jack stands on either side of the car lol. Anywho, make sure you have a long breaker bar or cheater pipe to loosen the bolt. My breaker bar wasn't long enough but luckily the handle on my jack comes off and is hallow, allowing that to act as a cheater bar.

It's not harsh at all. In fact, cabin vibration has increased zero. I would have been fine with increased vibration but there's none.

then its definitely a forward to backward mount. I assume when you accelerate its more engaged.

when you jacked up your car, where was your jacking point?

I had the 034 dogbone mount, and when properly torqued and installed it still showed a slight increase in noise and vibration - but only when under load. I reinstalled 4 times to verify it wasn't an issue with the placement, with no change. I didn't like the resulting vibration so I returned it.

that's all i needed to hear. ty

btw i dont even know what vibration you guys are feeling/talking about in this car.
what vibration is this supposed to eliminate? i dont even notice one AS IS

figured this was one of those mods that people get just for the sake of making anything different

markn - I think the insert deletes some of the engine/tranny movement that robs the delivery of smoother power. This apparently does/or doesn't result in increased vibration/noise in the cabin.

I notice some clunking and hiccups at lower speeds....not sure if you have that? I assume the dogbone helps with that. I'll shutup and let people that have it do the talking ;)

sometimes the 1st to 2nd gear shift can be rough, its still is with the insert, but there is less front to back movement when this happens with the insert.

Just to make sure nothing got lost in translation: the mount does not aim to reduce vibration in the steering wheel as there is basically none stock. It's aim is to reduce movement of the engine under acceleration and tighten up shifting gears slightly, especially between first and second. Usually the cost is increased steering wheel vibration or cabin vibration but personally, I have not noticed any of that.

I was wondering the same thing....seems super smooth to me as is. At worst a little clunking at low speeds/low rpm at odd shift points.

Laszlo, what variant would I need for a late build 2015 S3? Also, what would be shipping cost to Calgary, Alberta Canada T3G-4S9?

All of the S3s we've seen so far have had the Version 1 mount, but I always recommend visually verifying. If you have a camera phone, you can slide it under the car and take a picture/video to check what mount you have. No ramps or jack needed!

Our website can give you an exact estimate for shipping after you add the item to your cart. The cheapest option is DHL, which starts at ~$23. Due to the minimum shipping charge from the carriers and the small size of the part, it costs the same to ship one insert to Canada as it does to ship six inserts. If you have friends who are also interested, ordering together is a good way to save money on shipping.

DHL delivery starts at ~$23 for your postal code as well. Please see my note above regarding minimum charges! Perhaps you have a few local enthusiasts you can order with together.

The Golf R can have Version 1 or Version 2 dogbone, so it's best to check.

Had mine installed a week ago, and I really enjoy it. My DSG shifts much smoother I'm M mode and things just feel a bit tighter overall. It did add a tiny, tiny bit of vibration, but in a good way IMHO. Makes the car feel more like a machine like my Porsche 993. Great mod for the $!
