    Audi loaner question URGENT

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys I recently took my A6 in for the 65000 mile service and got the dealer(Audi North) to provide me with a loaner. I took the car home and the next day on the way to work I stopped at a gas station and wiped down the windshield and noticed a tiny crack at the bottom of the windshield along the black rim of the windshield. I immediately contacted the dealer and let them know. My question is this, am I held liable for the crack to the windshield? I can defiantly say that while the car was in my position I did not hear or see the windshield be cracked. Also if the dealer does hold me liable will I a have to replace the entire windshield or just have the crack filled? Lastly durning my walk thru I pointed out some damage to the front bumper and it lined up with where the crack was on the windshield. Would this stand to support the fact that the damage was previously their? I do admit that I should have looked at the car closer and will never make that mistake again, I just don't want to held liable for damage I know I didn't do.

You clearly don’t know who you’re talking to, so let me clue you in. I am not in danger, Skyler. I am the danger. A guy opens his door and gets shot, and you think that of me? No! I am the one who knocks.

Not sure how the damage to front bumper you're describing can be correlated to a crack in windshield. Was the bumper/hood pushed in? Any case, what did the dealership say when you called and told them?

YMMV, but depending on your relationship with dealership they may just over look that. If not, then they have your insurance information and most insurance companies (at least in NJ) that have collission/comprehensive will cover windshield damage less your deductible. Windshield chips less than a specified size can be filled in with resin (can be done by Safelite at no cost to you) and if it exceeds the size then a full replacement may be required.

I would guess your fine. You called them right away. I'm sure if they care about getting your future business they'll believe you. They may have already noted the crack prior to you having the car.

From a legal standpoint they have me over a barrel. I hope that worst-case scenario, they just make me fill the crack because my insurance will cover that with no cost. Next time I will do a better job during the walk around

Dont worry about it, cause they have to prove that it wasnt there before they gave you the loaner. I have had plenty of loaners from Audi recently, some had wheel, bumper and interior damage. I have never done a walk around before getting in the loaner, its when the car is at my home where I notice most of the damages. I never said anything to them about it and just dropped off the car, I mean I didnt put the damage there and figured they knew about it.

For what its worth, I had a loaner that had a few issues that came up a day after i took possession of the vehicle that were not noticed. I called the dealership asap once i realized they existed explained what the issues were and the dealership was very cool about it. The fact that you called goes a long way in my opinion vs. dropping your loaner off and playing innocent.

If the crack starts at the edge of the windshield ... It cannot be repaired.

What kind of loaner comes with a cracked windshield and bumper damage.

Not a good way to showcase a dealership.

The bumper chips look like rock dings, and they are clearly marked on the walk thru receipt. I hope they don't make me replace the windshield. I would understand if it was in the center of the windshield and when I received the car the windshield was flawless. I really should have paid more attention.

Loaner cars at my local dealer are registered vehicles with regular plates, not dealer plates. That being said, they are already insured. They notate the name of my insurance company on the paperwork, but don't ask for the card or policy number. I highly doubt that they would ask me to pay for the damage you describe, and yours shouldn't either.

My dealer never even looks at the car when I turn it back in even though they do the full rental-style walk around. I kind of suspect it's just to kind of scare people into taking better care of it than they otherwise might. Hopefully your dealer is as chill (they probably are...)

Agree, same with me. They never do a walk around with me, just hand me the keys, I sign the paperwork and leave. I think you're getting your skivvies in a wad over nothing....chill.
